Hi I’m brand new to all this but really hoping to get some support and advice as I’ve hit rock bottom. I’m in the process of getting divorced and selling our home of 15 years, in debt up to my eyeballs, lost all self respect and it’s all down to me succumbing to online slots. The only good thing in my life is my lovely son. I want to beat this horrible addiction for his sake.
Hello,
Well done for taking the firs step to recovery. I know how daunting it can be to take this step. Every time you get the urge log in here and read what people are saying. Look at the misery it has caused. Or take a minute and call the helpline.... just talk to someone until the urge has past. I’m no expert but I am now only 9 days in
To tackle this issue you need support, best way to get it is to go to your nearest GA meeting and make it a regular part of your recovery. There you will hear from fellow compulsive gamblers who will relate to your story and understand what your going through. You will get advice on ptting barriers in place to help combat the compulsion and you will begin a 12 step programme to re train your mind.
Its not easy by any means but after 6 months I am in a much better place now that when I was at rock bottom in April. You have put so much time, money and effort into your gambling, if you put that same time and effort into your recovery you will beat this and your son will have his father back.
Affected by gambling?
