On Monday morning I was in a very bad place after a full weekend of gambling all of my money away and not able to accept the mistakes I had made, but today I feel positive.Â
This week I have signed up to self exclude for 5 years and plan to continue self excluding for life. I have also entered a DMP with Stepchange and contacted my debtors. I’ve made a plan of budgeting to get me through the month to afford essentials and fortunately I have enough income at the end of July to pay off most of June’s missed payments too.Â
I feel a huge relief and weight off my shoulders. For anyone else who is lurking or struggling to take the steps needed - make yourself do it! I haven’t felt this sense of relief for the last 9 months after a relapse of 7 years gamble free.Â
I’ve accepted the blame and the only way forward is to take hold of the situation and work my way out of the debt to a better life.Â
it’s not much and it’s only been 3 days but if it serves to help one person on here then it’s worth sharing!Â
In certain situations only you can take control of your life in and if you’re in any doubt I can testify that the sense of relief outweighs the high of gambling every time.Â
Keep fighting and stay positive all.Â

Hi, well done on what you have accomplished this week. You have certainly made the right decisions with getting your finances sorted. As you say, taking these steps takes a whole weight off, this is exactly how I felt when I arranged my DMP with Stepchange who quite frankly are amazing. I have been with them for 2 years now slowly chipping away at my debts.
I assume you have signed up with Gamstop for 5 years, but you could also put a blocker on your phone or whatever you use to gamble, I use Betblocker, and contact your Bank to put a block on gambling transactions from your debit card.
You have done this before so take strength from that, you can do it again
All the best
Well done on your first week ,keep it up you can do this?
Thank you both! I have also put a block on my bank. At the moment I’m deleting any gambling related ads, they seem to be everywhere and that in itself tells you the problem within the country! Out of sight out of mind works wonders.Â
Affected by gambling?
