With this progressive illness, I'm happy for those who want to gamble to do so.

Many people can gamble with no effect and others can gamble types of gambling they deem harmless.

Just a message to all those who may be more progressive, be careful is all i'm saying. Just because others say something isn't a problem or that you stopping all gambling may be perceived ridiculous doesn't necessarily make it so.

Good luck to all with their choices, tri

I agree with Tri. If it feels like it is gambling or getting too much then don’t do it. I went to the horses for a works social but didn’t bet for that reason. But I wouldn’t deprive my child of happy memories that I shared as a boy.

I’d hope when he gets to 18 plus and gaming age, there will be sufficient limitation on gambling that other countries have shown.

All the best,

Abet

Yes I feel that it is about triggers and we have to apply some common sense theory to this. I didnt substitute the machines with anything else on that level. I stopped gambling altogether forty years later than I should have done.

Im not complacent in saying that I never gambled online. One may have thought it was a next step to go home and continue gambling overnight or when the bookies were closed. I didnt seek out casinos or anywhere out of the local area. That may suggest some control but Im still slightly confused how I could waste thousands in the high street dens. Ive never been more out of control than I was on gambling machines

Its a difficult one because its the right thing to talk about abstention yet I dont actually think you are back to square one because a lottery ticket has been bought or the office sweepstake entered.

Gambling is all around us and raffles do fall under the remit of the gambling commission. I wonder what may lead us on to other things but Ive never had a problem with tombolas or raffles. When they used to take a car round the shopping centres the thought of buying a ticket left me cold because I dont like the fact that they could be selling tickets for a year or so.

I feel we have to abstain from what was causing the damage and take it from there. I had to deal with why fruit machines are my poison. I wonder if people can play those things without getting addicted but I have to accept that not everybody has a problem like me. Thats not easy because I feel they are highly addictive and destructive. The feeling of expectation every few seconds is a recipe for disaster and a goldmine for the gambling dens

Am I trying to stop people reaching into a T*****a barrel...not really but I just think we have to be aware that all this feeling of expectation isnt generally as harmless as some people think. I think it builds a picture that everybody likes a cheeky flutter/everyone loves a winner until it becomes ingrained in us.

Am I unfairly biased because of my experiences. Not in my view as I see gambling for what it is and who sets it up to profit from.... Im not comfortable with gambling in society as if Im a pariah who couldnt cope so Im trying to spoil the fun of others.

There are many problem gamblers and I dont see it as all their fault. The balance is just not right in trying to protect people from the cynical aims of the gambling industry and the government

Best wishes to everyone on the forum

Just reading this thread and thinking about my stance, I’ve not stake a penny at all on anyththing at all. It’s worked upto now so I can’t risk turning the pilot light back on.

Anyhow It got me thinking and a thought crossed my mind, if you was an alcoholic and went out for a nice meal would you order a steak with a whisky sauce? After all you never got your fix by eating a steak and sauce.
