His gambling has gotten out of hand, he owes loads out and found out we have rent arrears... How do I even deal with this. We have children and he's risking the roof over our heads.

Unfortunately Its your husband that needs to seek (and want for that matter) support in relation to his compulsive gambling issue.

At Gamcare we a self supporting network of recovering compulsive gamblers living one day at a time gamble free. Maybe ask him If its something he is interested in?

I know I couldn't live gamble free without this community

I agree with Scar . It has to come from him. He has to want to stop. Sometimes we stumble a few times before we accept there is a problem and we want to stop . My trouble for two years was deep down I didn't want to stop I had to reach rock bottom and admit to myself I am a compulsive gambler. That doesn't mean you have to put up with it if he is not seeking help. I hope things get better for you very soon . Mary

What if the person doesn't want to admit the problem? He just likes to live the way he does. Even if it hurts his loved ones.

If the compulsive gambler doesn’t not want to stop or seek help and is refusing steps to recovery, then unfortunately as a partner you’ll have to make the decision if you want to stay with someone in active addiction. I know I won’t. Meanwhile, make sure to protect yourself and the finances of the family because a gambling addict will not hesitate to gamble this all away.  Gambling addicts are not rational logical beings especially during the activity. Protect yourself.
