I found out in the early hours of this morning that my husband has been gambling again. He has always liked to gamble but it was once in a blue moon when I first met him 12 years ago. Since the first lockdown it's been more regular and he's lost several thousand pounds over that time. I told him the last time I found he'd spent a couple of thousand that I would leave and take our two young children with me if it happened again and he did it anyway. I'm devastated and feel like he's just thrown our life away on the results of football games. I feel lost and betrayed and he just said it was a slip and it wasn't as bad as last time, which financially it wasn't but it feels so much worse after the conversation that we had. I don't really know what to do.Â
Hi @Shim,Â
I am sorry to hear what you are going through with your husband’s gambling. I can imagine this is all really stressful and exhausting.
It sounds like all of this has been going on for quite a while for you as well so can I suggest that you contact the GamCare Helpline on 0808 8020 133 or Netline just to have a space to talk and offload and see what other support we can offer you.
Hopefully sharing on here will also help.Â
Regards,Â
Helen

The reality is he was never gambling just once in a blue moon if he was at the stage where he was losing thousands he will be a hardened gamblerÂ
Likewise it was unlikely the latest episode was "just a slip"Â
These are classic phrases used by addicts to play down the true severity of the situationÂ
If you aren't careful you will wind up in a situation where you cant believe a word he saysÂ
i was always fairly upfront with my issues but i rarely told many the full extent of the financial damage it was causing out of pure shame and guilt
Some gambling acquaintances i met over the years took this to a completely different level often denying they were even gambling at allÂ
