Hi there,
I want to try and keep this short. About 7 years ago my father had a serious online gambling addiction which he perused in secret. It resulted in him losing around £1million and occuring serious finaical debt beyond that; as well as causing severe family problems. He saught help and since then has abided by a strict no gambling policy. However in recent months myself and both my mother and brother all have concerns that he is gambling again. His behaviour is very similar at that when he was gambling previously.
However confronting him is not even an option and will not acheiving anything but make things worse and everything would be denied. Therefore i was looking for advice on what would be the best way to try and get evidence to show he is gambling before confronting him?
Regards
S.
Compulsive gamblers are secretive, but bad liars. Relapsing compulsive gamblers are better at the secrecy, but still bad liars.
You are right, interrogation about gambling is going to be frustrating and can drive all sorts of wedges between family members who were previously supporting each other. Even if the gambling is obvious and the lies laughable, your sensible points and concerns will be drowned in a big barrel of lunacy.
I think if it were me, I would be talking to him about how he is behaving like a gambler again, I don't care about money or bookmakers, but I care about someone sliding into a breakdown, you can see the car crash coming, you can sag you're worried about this without needing any evidence.
Affected by gambling?
