Hi,
I was a compulsive gambler.
As a cg there are no half measures and the deceit we show is truly reflected in half-life's post above.
Honesty from this moment forward must take precedence otherwise the gambler will continue to manipulate all around him.
Help is also needed for the gambler but must be accepted and acted upon. Too often on this site people say things in order to stop but it's all about taking actions in order to stop.
You must look at how the gambler accesses gambling. In this case online. Download blocking software, get rid of the laptop, block access to funds but do whatever is necessary to take away all opportunities to gamble.
Going back to my first point honesty must prevail. In my case the embaressment of it all was too much. It has rarely been mentioned but that is because I have had counselling, attended GA and gave up all access to cards and cash.
I have stopped for 141 days so it can be done. But it is still one day at a time. Once an alcoholic always an alcoholic. Once a gambler always a gambler. We are all one step away from returning. I choose daily not too.
So can he but it takes hard work for the gambler and his family/friends. Bail outs do not help.
Best wishes
Hi,
Thank you for your kind words and a good decision you have made.
This site contains a lot of advice from both sides of the fence which I still look through on a daily basis.
One day at a time for him and one day at a time for all of you.
Best wishes
