Researchers at Sheffield Hallam University are interested in visual representations of gambling problems and are looking for participants for their study. Participation is voluntary and images are submitted anonymously. Here is what the research team say about the project:
What is this research about?
This research aims to visually document the lives of problem gamblers and those surrounding them; to allow participants to use images to express their experiences, feelings and perceptions of problem gambling and to explore the meaning of these images.
Who can take part?
Anyone who considers themselves affected by problem gambling: problem gamblers, family members, friends & other loved ones.
What will I be asked to do?
Take, find or create images that visually represent your experiences, feelings and / or perceptions of problem gambling. You can also include a title or brief description of your image.
Participation is completely voluntary and images are submitted anonymously via the link below.
We are also interested in interviewing people about their photos/images.

I'm sorry Forum Admin but I feel these universities are playing at this. There are people on this forum who are considerably more intelligent than university bods.
I state that to highlight that we are not little oiks or stereotypical characters to be patronised by somebodies university thesis or arty project....images really!.......what do you feel somebody is imagining when they can take no more?
Who reads these university reports? Who acts on these university reports? A government who make millions in tax revenue??
The acceptable face of addiction. Its a national scandal and if I see one more wishy washy TV report or university survey...well Im long past screaming
I would suggest they keep away from the forum until they are seriously ready to help tackle the problem

I went to Sheffield Hallam and met a lady researching family harm caused by problem gambling. It felt really rewarding. She explained there is lot's of research into other addictions, just not this one so that's why she chose it. She wanted to know about family harm that causes problem gambling and family harm caused by problem gambling. I really felt it was a valuable use of my time to take part.
However, that being said, taking pictures to show problem gambling sounds like more of an art project than an actual valuable study. It's not something I would choose to take part in.
