Hi Admin,

As you probably noticed you have shocked many people with your recent decision to ban one of the users on Recovery Diary section. We all have rights to express our opinions and i just would like to ask why you took such drastic measures to ban person alltogether?
You have already banned one amazing person few years ago..why? Cause she has spoken her heart out!

This is unacceptable!
If you stop lurking behind the screens and move a finger to actually solve the issues out (real bullies who are still free to post) ..you would earn your name as being a support site back..not judging ....

Any comments?

Funny how quick you are to delete perfectly acceptable entries within seconds but can't manage even a one line response on here. You have also left a vitriolic remark made on a diary as for some reason you seem to find their insensitivity acceptable however devisive their messages are. To suggest we have them and us sites as this person did indicating their superiority and their unwillingness to even read comments in response as they have ' no interest, lol' in what others have to say I find egotistical and insensitive and not suited to this site as it has already close down the oppeness on here for people to express their feelings and experiences without being mocked. No wonder she is thanking you as the bias is clear. A sad day

Hi Gamcare,

If Dan has been banned from the site, this saddens me. He's helped many people on this journey. Surely he is entitled to post his own journey and thoughts honestly on his own diary? If people get angered by these then they should avoid his diary. One thing that shone out from Dan's posts was that he cared and was genuinely trying to help others. The forum is not a supportive place nemore like I remember it. This is disappointing it seems a couple of ppl have been allowed to bully others and post comments that r against the Gamcare rules and nothing gets done about this! I hope Gamcare clears this up soon!

Morning,

I would also like to express my opposition to the situation regarding Dan. If one post not in accordance with etiquette is removed or edited, all should be. That simply hasn't happened this time round. And it seems that offence was taken with Dan because his unedited post critised the fabric of the forum, therefore a harder line has been taken. The proposed vetting it will take up disproportionate admin time better directed elsewhere, others have not been subject to this.

The Forum will change as its membership changes, that's inevitable. But it need not be so divided - that undermines it's purpose. The present trend is for certain members to step back, which changes the dynamics. Dan has a lot to offer, there aren't many members in sustained long term recovery, his (appropriate) posts add much needed balance. I for one have been dependent on them.

Finally, this whole unfortunate episode is distracting - one post that I flagged up to you twice yesterday has yet to be considered by you. And that is worrying.

When all is well, the service is great and much appreciated, thank you. I hope that the current issue can be satisfactorily resolved.

Regards,

CW

I would also like to go on record that the handling of dan has been heavy handed and disproportionate.

I've seen one poster, twinkly, post consistently aggressive and insulting posts to a wide number of posters.

I've written how her and others have developed this thing of mocking people as miserable and depressed.

Dan's posts challenged ideas. But there's obviously a difference between challenging ideas and throwing personal insults. I've lot count of the number of people who went in a huff with dan and then returned, enlightened and grateful.

Twinklyr has referred to the "glorification of people who have had something seriously nasty stuff going on in their lives". See my diary post 228. This is an example, of a shockingly insensitive comment. I'm sure that will deter people from opening up and so I would say she is undermining the purpose of this forum.

I don't think you should ban her. She's not a bad person just has an overly tribal approach of 'them' and 'us'. Which I can live with but NOT if you're going to start banning the likes of dan.

I would be grateful if you would tell us

a) what specifically dan has done to merit a ban, and
b) under which provision of your constitution (rules etc) dan has been banned

Basically the 'offence' he's committed. It all seems a arbitrary at the moment, possibly political.

Thanks

Louis

Admin - i agree with many of the views expressed above.

Dans views allow us to think about recovery in a different light. We may not agree with what is said or how it is said but we all have the option to respond if we wish. Each individuals opinions and views matter but why a ban and why only one person

That is the question many of us are asking now but your silence on this matter is making this issue more toxic than it needs to be

Thankyou all for your feedback,

Just like to make it clear that "day at a time" has not been banned, just put on moderation for the time being, so posts will just need to be approved before they appear on the Forum.

Best Wishes, Forum Admin

With respect, imposing rules on Dan that are not universally imposed seems unfair.

Who knows how long it will take for this post to be deemed fit or if it gets edited down to suit, we will see. So clarification from my perspective. I was sent an email yesterday around lunchtime informing me my account was being put under moderation & all my posts would need approval, no mention of temporary. The reasonal being not my comments towards the members but my view of Gamcare & its platform. I replied to said email & almost 24 hours later surprise surprise no reply. Lets look at the implications of an account under moderation. I cant reply to posters looking for help. If I needed immediate help, say i was thinking of going for a punt today & needed to talk to someone. My option of that has been taken away as my post would be sat waiting to be approved for god knows how many hours. If I was in so much trouble I was considering suicide due to the fact im an addict & its possible i may gamble again read as above. An account under moderation is to all intensive purposes a ban. It makes my input meaningless. Admin no this. In the interest of balance. Editing the post of concern , i have no problem with that. One favour to those who have backed me. Lay off Twinklyr. Much saddened by the departure of Mr Mac today & if i contributed in part to that, then he has my humble apologies

As is so often the case the point has been competely missed here in that it was admin that allowed, as Cardhue has so accurately decribed earlier, ongoing mocking of others on the site with no consistency as to who has been sanctioned. It is irrespective of whether it was Dan or anyone else the rules should apply to all.

All this "t*t for tat" is getting us/going nowhere. He said, she said blah blah blah.

I think most are missing the the "real point", which is that this is a place where people who have serious problems comes for support. They want and need to be welcomed, respected and given views from all aspects. We all have different opinions, that is life. I feel some people do not share my thoughts and wisdom and i guess the bottom line is if Forum do not agree with posts they will deal with it as they see fit. This is not school for goodness sake, and if anyone doesnt like the way stuff is being dealt with, they have the choice not to use this site!!!
