Thanks Admin.
Hope restrictions you have put in place not gonna deter user from posting.

I also think more diarist's accounts should be restricted and viewed before posting ...mine included but it's your choice.

Thanks anyway

Sandra

Thank you to everyone who has given feedback on this thread.

We would like to clarify that placing an account under moderation is a tool, which gives the member an opportunity to consider what they wish to post and, of course, gives us as moderators also an opportunity to ensure that messages remain supportive and within our Forum rules. Many members have expressed feeling unsettled and, at times, offended by contributions from others and we do take this seriously. As moderators, we attempt to be fair to our members and, in order to act with diligence, we listen to feedback, look at individual posts and their history and agree on our responses. At times, we require more than a day or two to address issues of concern on the Forum more comprehensively, but rest assured, we do.

In recent days, we have placed a number of accounts under moderation and hope that this helps to remind all of our members to reconsider their use of the Forum in the spirit of supportiveness, respect and generousity towards each other.

As our guidelines, which apply to ALL of our members state:

"Please do not ... post comments or messages which:

  • are obscene, insulting or considered malicious to others;
  • are disrespectful of other people's views;
  • do not reflect the purpose or theme of the specific Forum or Chatroom;"

Having said this, it is also important to note, that we very much value each one of our members and wish to acknowledge all your supportive contributions, insightful posts and heart felt stories. When we take a decision to moderate an account, we still value that member and when we edit a post, we still acknowledge and honour the often vast amount of helpful and kind contributions of that person.

We would like to encourage you to keep this in mind and to keep posting!

Kind wishes

Thanks for the explanation Admin, now perhaps you can explain how the moderation actually works...

I'm not going to beat around the bush here...Why has day@atime's, I assume moderated post, been effectively secreted within this thread?

Surely in the interest of fairness, should you decide to put a poster under moderation, anything that is approved should appear as a new unread new post @ the end of a thread (maybe even their own diary)? Loads of deleted posts have been afforded that courtesy since I joined, why not this moderated one?

Echo ODAAT. I didn't even know he'd posted anything without a though hunt through the forum. His moderated posts turn up in time order...several hours later.

I'm not a fan of posts being approved this is why I don't use the gamblers anonymous forum as all posts are approved. What I would say is we should all be grown up enough to moderate our own posts.

Can we not just move on a lesson learnt and go back to try to beat the gambling we are all here to do. If you don't agree with something that has been said report it let the powers that be at Gamcare towers deal with it but don't start retaliation and just not worth it.

Dear all,

Many thanks for the comments on this thread.

ODAAT - to answer your question about how moderation works. When someone posts the post is held in the admin account until we read it and approve it. I'm afraid there's no way to move posts to another place or time, they go where they would have gone had they been live. We can understand frustration at the time delay, but after the events of the last few days we have had many posts to go through, along with lots of emails, so we haven't been as quick to approve posts as we might have been. There will be some time delay, but we do do our best with this.

Oldham - we completely agree it would be best if people could moderate their own posts and for the most part, people do. However we do occasionally need this feature to help people reflect on what they post and take a step back. We expect to lift the moderation once things are calmer.

Capital T - it's strange to us that your first post on this forum is to get involved in this argument so we have deleted your post.

Thanks

Rebecca
