hi my names Patrick  I'm 35 and have gambled for 25 years atleast. I have gambled since a child belive it or not ,

I've grown up in the world of gambling as a child as my family are oncorse bookmakers I've come in here today as I a m killin my self in many types of ways emotional and physical  lost relationships due to my lack of emotion something I have  issues with as a child as I was brought up in a dysfunctional home and use to play a lot of sport to block it out as I got older I use gambling to hide my emotions which then has made me become more greedy to the point I could win a million pound and wouldn't be enough when ever I would get stress about anything all I know was to gamble ? To the point where I'm in debt  lost my partner and feel so alone and it gets better I'm currently in a top job in the gambling world  and literally come to a brick wall  just writing on here as I don't know what to do anymore or if I actually feel as I've dealt with emotional  pain from a child amd allways have block it out and never told anyone

Hello Patrick,

Welcome to the forum and well done for introducing yourself here.

It sounds like you are saying that you have been surrounded by gambling since childhood, it has been part of your family life and your professional life.  You feel that gambling has been your way of dealing with stress and difficult feelings, but that it has resulted in debt and it has cost you your relationship, leaving you feeling isolated and unsure where to go from here.

Please call us on our freephone 0808 8020 133 or on our Live Chat so you can listen to your concerns and provide you with details of local support.  GamCare can offer free 1-2-1 sessions with practitioners by telephone or online videocall.  https://www.gamcare.org.uk/get-support/find-local-treatment/

I hope you find that the peer-to-peer support on the forum can help you to feel less alone.

Take care,

Adam.
