I have been seriously gambling for 10 years. Slot machines are my nemesis. I am an intelligent person however I just can escape on line gambling. As with most things it is linked with drinking or stress. Some people eat, I gamble. I lie to my family and friends and it has completely consumed my life. Due to the job i do i cant go to aa or ga meetings in case I'm recognised. I'm no-one special just work with the public. I feel completely alone and very trapped. Tonight I have lost 2k of someone else's money who was just trying to help. I'm so ashamed.
Do not worry about the money. In 2019 there is billions ways to make money. What you should worry is your compulsive gambling.
First thing you should do is put blocks in place: Start with GAMESTOP. Register for 5 years and do it ASAP.
GAMESTOP worked for me so far, I do not need other blocks, but more experience gamblers will suggest: blocking software on your PC, excluding from bookies and someone else to look after your finance, they are probably right about all these recommendations
Good luck and I will monitor your progress
Start with what / / said good luck
Being recognised at a GA meeting is not how it works. It's anonymous. Nobody cares who you are, it's help, non judgemental. Gamstop is great as a blocker but not support. Call gamcare for counselling.
Thank you for the advice. I have signed up for gamstop. Does anyone know if it includes the national lottery?
I’m afraid it doesn’t include the lottery, not yet anyway.
Do not worry about national lottery - small money, you do not waste time....focus on gambling.
Hi Nikneedshelp,
the nat lottery is not included in Gamstop, but you can self-exclude from them as an individual operator. I would strongly recommend you do that.
We also recommend blocking software, please have a look here: https://www.gamcare.org.uk/get-advice/what-can-you-do/blocking-software
Wishing you all the best in your recovery,
Eva
