Hello everyone hope Monday finds us best we can
So why am I here, well as my name says the barman is lining up my final drink, if I don't stop now, so here I am 6 hours in and my brain is already saying you can get your weekends losses back, just get to study and you find a greyhound winner and your away, but today I cant just face it,I need to go to card machine and get a tenner out, or twenty like normal people do, not 250 or 500, if its the bank hole in the wall,so scary
I gambled every day for the last week, been a few hundred up everyday, but that's the point, I just don't stop, think I am invincible, then your scratting about with your last 10 pounds hoping to get 3 fishing floats in a row to get out of the mire ON THOSE DEVIL WORSHIPPING MACHINES , or buying scratch cards instead of putting petrol in on way home with a card that's maxed out nearly
My first memory is being at the dog track age about 3, can still see the tote board shining bright, the numbers, remember going age 5 and putting 10p reverse forecasts on 1 and 5 because I loved the colours, we went every week ,sometimes twice, only missed when my dad had to go get his parent of the year award, lol, only kidding he never realised 50 years later and a lifetime of ripped up forecast tickets later, I would be writing on here
I will admit I still enjoy it, the buzz of a win, but it makes you a liar and some people a thief, luckily not me, or did borrowing my mums catalogue money from the sideboard stealing, no I always paid it back every Friday payday, so no , well maybe
So wish me luck, will fill you in with some of my gambling adventures on the way, if you enjoy reading the stress and strains of a gamblers existence , nearly 7 hours in now
Good luck to you all, if I dont stop now, im ruined, so pray for me
all my best wishes LCS
Hello @gexq8uk6ti
Welcome to the GamCare Forum and thank you for sharing your story here.
You seem to have recently started your recovery journey and sound like you have reflected a lot on your gambling and the harms you have struggled from it over the years. However, from reading you story, it sounds like you understand that it’s not about the money when it comes to gambling but rather it’s something which is strongly habitual therefore is preoccupying you a lot.
Well Done for being here and reaching out for support! From what you share, it also seems like acceptance has been a very big turning point for you in your journey. Acceptance can take time and it can be difficult to recognise and accept there is a problem. However, it sounds that by being able to do this you have been able to take positive steps forward in your journey with a clear goal of what you want to achieve to make progress! Remember Recovery is very much an ongoing journey and can take time however, it is important that you take each day as it comes to climb that next step of that staircase towards your goals.
I am wondering if you have reached out to any family or friends around you? It may also be that you would like more peer to peer support from others on this platform who is in a similar situation. You can access that through our Forum here or you may wish to join our chatrooms: https://community.gamcare.org.uk/chatrooms/
Reading other’s stories and attending the live chats can help you connect with others and hopefully you are able to feel supported - You are not alone, we are here to support you too.
For a more 1 to 1 approach you can always contact us through to our helpline to speak to one of our advisers for debrief on the situation - space to go through this together with someone and receive further guidance on accessing 1 to 1 through GamCare. Our helpline is open 24/7, you can contact us via call on 0808 8020 133 or go through our website and chat to someone.
