My friend just change your routine , visit someone or call a friend to talk to help take your mind of the urges believe me the urges will subside and if you don't give in and gamble you feel a sense of victory and achievements one the urges has passed and the rational thinking starts. I am in early days of recovery so can't give much advice but stay strong and do the right thing .I wish you luck.
Take care
Akhtar

Remember that gambling is the cause of your problems and never the answer to them.

Hello Jonny,

When I first stopped gambling, I was completely lost. I literally had nothing to do. I didn't know anything else existed. Didn't want to see anyone.

I learned that I was actually coming down from getting my rush. That there was no other activity I could think of, that was as convienent to get my rush other then gambling. This rush had created a fantasy world, of how important I could be, and how much help I could do for others.

I thought Gambling was a problem solver, which was completely the opposite. I found over time, that I did actually have alot to do. I was as important as I wanted to be in loved ones eyes. The rush I was receiving and fantasy world I was creating wasn't true at all.

I thought gambling was hope. But it was false hope.

These are some things you may wish to keep in mind, the next time you get an urge.

I will be hoping for your success.

Regards,

AM

Keep strong and keep going, the urges do get easier.

You're nearly at a week free so close to such massive goal for a compulsive gambler.

Think of the feeling you get when you've wasted hundreds on gambling that's the real sick to the pit of the stomach feeling, that will be worse.

It's so easy to say I can't do this, but believe me you can.

Do whatever it takes to get to that one week milestone, go out, do some tidying up, ring someone or just post as much as you want on here.

Hey Jonny,

On day 9 now first week was a real struggle mentally at times and very draining as its an addiction and your body is craving that betting sensation, when you don't bet thats when the feeling of being nervous or craving kicks in, i've felt the same. Stay strong brother these feelings are bound to occur but choosing not to indulge them is an even better feeling i assure you 🙂

It's bloody tough ! But knowing we are all in the same boat kinda helps . Payday soon , our toughest test is yet to come.

I got to the stage where despite how much I would win Id keep going until I lost it all!

I turned 100 quid into 1000 in the space of an hour and then lost the lot!

Looking back at situations like that makes me feel sick

Massive congrats, you are doing superbly to get to a week gamble free.

Think about what you've saved by not gambling and think about how you've managed it, such as what you have done, instead of gambling.

Think about what you could do, if you continue not too gamble.

If you haven't already, get a diary going and join in with the 2015 challenge thread in the overcoming problem section.

There most definitely is safety in numbers when it comes to getting through the tough times. I used to post on a now defunct forum, in one simple thread, where a group of us, would support each other and at times, it was the only way I managed to get through the really tough times.
