Hi everyone,

Newbie here. This is my second attempt, but a much more serious attempt than the first one at stopping my gambling addiction before it becomes a problem that goes beyond finances. Brief intro: I'm a 23 year old university student (graduating this year YAY) and I have been gambling for the past 4 years, stopped once for a couple of months when my parents found out, and then continued up until January 22nd 2021 when they found out that I was continuing.

I now realize myself that I need to be able to control this addiction which has made me invest paycheck after paycheck I have received over the last 4 years (around 50k Canadian dollars total) into gambling. Sports bets and blackjack is what I did most often, because I felt in control of the outcome, but I realize that while I made lots of short term profits, long term my money dwindled down to 0. I realize that I am lucky because my parents kept some of the money I had earned over the summer in their account, which has allowed me to pay off the small payday loan I still owed and the 1K that was due on my credit card. Basically, I had barely any debt, and now I have none, however, I have to try and forget the $50k of losses in the past. I have self-excluded myself from all gambling sites I used and have looked into websites like this one in order to try and turn the tide for good. If anyone has any advice, I welcome it and will gladly take it. Day 8 now of not gambling, and I'm looking to keep it that way.
