Thanks Deeno for pointing out that Gamcare has helped you and is helping you. I wish you nothing but Good Luck in your battle. I have read some inspiring posts, but am presently unable to overcome my anger at how the system allows gambling to be operated in this way, as a seperate entity, self governing and self regulating. Displaying logos for gambling addiction, but which are helpful but not as helpful as being able to take immediate control of the money. I realise it is a problem with me/us and we have to look at ourselves and seek support. But stopping the money loss immediately, does not benefit the gaming operator displaying the gambling addiction support logos.

I think for most gamblers, the need is to stop gambling althogether, right from the beginning is the best way forward. Controlling gambling is pretty dangerous at the beginning, because it only takes a good win, even if it's only 1/10 times, for an addicts mind, to tell them, it more like 9/10 you're going to win.

I myself, stopped gambling altogether, for the best part of a year. But then after a while, my mind said, the odd £10 won't hurt, well it did hurt, because it turned into £50 then a couple of hundred pounds a month.

At that point, I luckily realised I was about to throw all the good work away and start gambling heavily again, so again I stopped.

As for gambling in general, we have to remember, that not everyone who gambles, is addicted to gambling. It certainly feels that way, when you are around forums such as these, but it simply isn't true.

Many more people than not are able to control their gambling, but I think it is important, that problem gambler figures, are monitored as the way people gamble, with the internet in particular, has changed over the past 10 - 15 years.

Myself, well I for years, used to blame the fruit machine companies for my addiction, but realised, after many years, it's my choice whether I gamble or not. During my addiction years, I would have loved to have seen fruit machines banned unless in a casino and in later years, would have loved to have seen online gambling outlawed. But I now realised it is unfair to ban something because a minority may be affected by it's effects.

Part of the giving up gambling process, is to stop blaming others and take responsibility for our actions. Once you come to terms with that, you are part way to becoming gamble free.

Hi day@atime,

Thanks for looking in on my diary 🙂 Listen, I'm not here to judge anyone and what I am about to say kind of flies in the face of that. In my opinion I think you give fantastic advice 95% of the time but your words can also sting. We all probably deserve a helping of slap-in-the-face reality check, but a carefully considered slap and at the right time. Unfortunately, as we are all sat looking at computer screens and not real people - not someones facial expressions and body language, we can't gauge when to deliver the slap and if we do, what impact that would have. You come from a position of high esteem - you have done amazingly well and have beaten this disgusting addiction for such a long time. I want to be you day@atime, we all on here want to be where you are today. Please don't let my opinion take away any of your passion. As I said in another post, I'm a lover not a fighter, I prefer a virtual hug to a virtual kick up the jacksy - that's all!

Hope you have a good day.

Rach

I think everyone needs a bit of both really - the arm around the shoulder bit and the occasional kick up the backside (although not at the same time!).

Ha! 'Thundercats!' I know, amazing. So, that's another on our list of what to do instead.... Watch The Undateables and go around shouting 'You mother's a squirrel'. I could think of worse things Dan 🙂
