Not a new member but not posted for years. First posted way back in 2008. Been back out gambling again. Lost ВЈ700 in about 30 minutes in the bookmakers then stopped for a while then lost a further ВЈ1030 2 weeks ago In the space of roughly an hour in 2 separate bookies and then on Wednesday £250 in 2 separate bookies in about 30 minutes. Makes me feel sick how quickly the money goes on these fobt machines. Now I only have 69p to my name and had to use a food bank. Feel like the lowest of low. Hate it. If there is a God I hope he can forgive me. If I can stop gambling now I will be able to donate to the food bank in the future to repay them.
I know that horrible feeling all too well. Well done firstly for coming here. There is tons of ways you can use this support to remain GF forever.
Firstly, set up a diary in the Recovery Diaries forum and try to update it daily. This just gives you that little boost of motivation and you can look back and see how you've got on.
Also, practical measures such as blocks. Are you using shop bookies? You can get self excluded from them. Also, I'd recommend chopping up a debit card and getting a cash card and transferring money over to it via standing order when you need it.
Also we have the Chatroom which is great for getting tips and just generally chatting about your day and how you're feeling. Plus GamCare offers tons of support such as counselling, online chats etc. Just have a browse and see if anything is suitable for you.
Best of luck!
Hi mallys
Wow I can totally relate to what you are saying I have been there and done that those machines are terrible! Absolute rip off,
Here's my advice tho I would say forget about the money that's not coming back! It's crazy the situations gambling gets us into well paid men and women but we end up with nothing,
I would advise looking around your area for a Gamblers anonymous meeting this was the best decision I ever made!
You can come through this but not on your own confide in someone you trust and get someone to deal with your finances for the time being!
This will be a fresh start best of luck my friend please keep in touch
Matt
Strewth mate, feel for you Cobber. Top bloke for coming back here though, big pat on the back for that,
You have to remember the golden FOBT rule, if you win, then all you will want to do is experience that feeling again very soon, maybe within hours, maybe within minutes, which will lead to losing.
If you win, you will experience a sensation that will put you on such a (fake) high, that all you will want to do is repeat it, again, within hours, maybe within minutes mate, which will lead to losing.
How can you beat that my old mate? Lose Lose Scenario, doomed either way - if you won $10,000, you would still experience the same as what I said here, same result, same feelings, same emotions, same result, every time - all paths lead to losing and devastation - make it a $100,000 - terrible for you, worst thing ever, losing more at higher stakes, your biggest win, your biggest disaster.
Friend, you have hit a very low point again, do you want to be back here again, in another nine years, saying the same things? Forget the money, life is precious, you are wasting time, not money, you are wasting your life by going round and round in circles - you ain't a bad person cobber, you have just found something in life you can't handle, and that's ok, but put a big "X" through your past because you can't change it, focus on moving on, moving up and keep reminding yourself over and over until you are literally sick of it, that you lose if you win, you lose if you lose. Face it, accept it, take your punishment for the time being, and focus on a better time, and a better life, away from this. One Dollar is one too much for you mate, you can't win because you can't stop, that will never change friend
