Hi all,
Today I out of the blue for the first time in my life bought swiss lotto ticket from the petrol station while buying some bread. It was only 5 francs. I am gonna feel real bad if I have to erase 222 days gamble free 🙂 What do you guys think. Honestly I dont find it big deal. As I no longer play poker or watch or bet on sports - which led to problem gambling
Hope you are excellent !
regards
Hi
I am far from qualified to give advice but I do know that the longer and more intently we dwell on things the more established and bigger the deal becomes. Dont let this ruin things for you, try not to feel upset. Just remember your achievements and think how much you don't want to go back there again. Stand well back from the slippery slope though!
Hi dude :)) .
There was a little debate on this very issue yesterday on the recovery diary's page under " What consitutes gambling " which may be of interest to you ? .
Lot's of opinions on both side of the fence and I hope it can help with your question my friend :))
Honestly, the way 99% people count their days up is not a healthy way to assess abstaining from gambling.
You should try to measure your gambling by how much it has reduced by. Sure you could say back to day 1 (which is really self defeating), or you could say that in over 200 days I have only slipped up once, which is actually fantastic.
I would also say there are some forms of gambling that don't trigger you. Lottery for me is a pipe dream, its not the same type of gambling as roulette, or sports betting, though I do know people can get addicted to lottery tickets as well.
Ask youself whether this brought back any urges ot gamble, and like above, do no dwell on it, as it is not a relapse in my eyes at all.
I personally wouldn’t see an occasional lottery ticket as a relapse. Unless of course lottery tickets were your downfall at some point. Congrats on your day count, forget the lottery ticket and keep going
Thank you all for taking the time to respond 🙂
I feel no trigger at all, and I never bought a lotto ticket in my life, that was the first time 🙂 I feel no urges to gamble on sports or poker. Never played slots as I always knew its a scam. My biggest downfall was online poker, which I personally think is a scam as well. There was I remember something on the page as gambling commission but I think they cooperate with the bookmakers. I got hooked on poker first from my days in university. I always thought of the poker that is something that I can control it. I have played in real tables with real people and to be honest till the time I was gambling I only once walked away with 10 pounds in minus. I know some may not believe it. I always walked away with a win, sometimes big sometimes very small. But then I got introduced to online poker and everything went downfall. That was about 2 years ago. Since that time, everytime I look at casino while driving I get those chills. fear... in those two years of recovery I have relapsed once with loosing 400 and something, that was on sports betting and now the lotto, but I am not gonna count the lotto because its not something I can get hooked and go crazy with.
Be well,
The dude
