Hi all,

This is my first post, i've tried a few times before to stop gambling but this time i've hit rock bottom and the realisation that gambling is stoping from living my life.
I hit my lowest point last Sunday losing all my ВЈ6,500 in savings in one day culminating in a £4000 lost bet!!!
At first i struggled mentally being really depressed struggling to see anylight at the end of the tunnel, and wondering how to move forward. This feeling has lessened slightly but i still have that regret, not just loosing the money but thinking why didn't i bet on something else then i could've won. I know that its not i bet on the wrong person to win, but that i bet at all thats the problem and i need to face up to that.
I've managed a week now but know its a long way to go and easy to fall as i've stopped before after loosing 10,000 a few years ago.
I've spent too long wasting my savings and to look forward with my life and have a positive future gambling has to stop, full stop. I'm hoping this time i finally can!!!

Hello Tnsk , your story sounds very like mine where i also have lost most of my savings. It has been 5 days since my latest big loss and like you have struggled mentally. I have started a recovery diary on here has helped and have also joined the 2015 challenge also reading other peoples storys on here has also helped me. I am new here myself so am no expert but im sure you will get lots of help and support on here.

Hey chartom3, thanks for sharing just knowing others are in my position and moving forward helps. Hard to move past money lost at times, but i know a life without gambling will be a much more fulfilling life, and keeping that awful feeling with me that the gambling provided is what i think of when feeling the urge to bet as i never want to experience that again. Here's to a life free of gambling 🙂

Hi Tnsk,

You've done a good thing joining here. There are many people that can help.

I was a prolific gambler on football and my stakes were ever increasing. I actually lost a bet for the exact same amount, £4K, and it was a bit of a turning point for me. I used to obsess about why i'd picked that team, how i'd get the money back, how good it would be if I'd just backed someone else and had all the winnings etc.

The truth is, once you are getting to a stage where you are staking £4K on one bet, unless you are very rich, you are in trouble. Of course you could have won on something else, but how long until you were staking that amount again? We only want extra cash to buy nice things or for our families but there are much better ways to do it. You'll be hurting with the loss but every day you don't gamble, you'll get stronger. You'll then realise that you don't need it anymore and you'll feel happier, less stressed and panicked, these things money can't really buy anyway.

Cheers

Scott

That big loss just keeps you living in the past with regret and looking back. Wipe it off, it's 4k instead of 40k in the next year if you don't stop. Well done for realising there's a problem and doing something about it, one day at a time.

Thanks guys your spot on with your comments it does really help. I know i could of won, have in the past but in the long run the money will be gone, if it takes that money for me to be gambling free and live a more fulfilled life i'll be happy! I felt the urge to gamble strongly today, thought hard about it but restrained myself, i know its a long process and i need to stay determined to beat this. One week down, here's to many more to come for us all.

If it cost you 4k to get your lifel back on track then it's cheap. There's people on here that have lost 50 times that only to realise its time to say thanks but no thanks. Win, lose, win, lose, it's a circle of rubbish, get off the rollacoatser of doom and join us in the fight for a life, sunshine and positivity. Your brain is saying you can win the money back, the truth is you can, but why chase it and come back here next week and say you won it back then lost it again plus another 4k, so that's 8k. Fight the lies, your brain is telling you lies, it will pass and the urge will ease. One day at a time, one hour at a time if need be.
