Generally I personally find the chatroom(s) very helpful in my recovery but sometimes there is antagonism, big disagreements and sometimes nastiness which I have been guilty of. Please don't let that put you off the chatrooms as most people are cool and considerate which I have not always been and I still think of myself as a newcomer with lots to learn which I can cherry pick as can you in my opinion. Express yourself - people will take an interest. Not everyone is self-obsessed and unhappy in their recovery and have lots of helpful advice to give. Best wishes, Phil.

Also like, was new to the room this evening and just explaining what had happened really helped me , just kind of wish it was 24 hours ....My worst hours are early morning so would be a great go to tool ...

I shall certainly return tomorrow

That's a really nice considerate post Phil 🙂

Yes, the chatroom can get a bit frenetic at times but it's a really good place with an over-riding mission of everyone trying to help ourselves, and, importantly each other, as we all share our recovery battle with this horrible, corrosive gambling habit we are all afficted with. We can control it, and in the Gamcare webchat, you'll find a welcoming, caring, vibrant group of people just waiting for anyone - especailly newbies - to say hello and join in!

Hi Phil

Nice to make your aquantance on chat tonight.

Maybe "antagonism, big disagrrements.." etc. Are all just part of everyday normal life and have to be dealt with? Like being a CG and facing up to the "real" world, instead of forgetting your responsibilities in the "haze" of gambling?!

The problem (if that's the right word) is the moderation of this forum is extremely rigid and rightly so in some respects. For example, personal attacks and snotty comments which I have been guilty of myself. However, there are means and ways of criticising others which can be constructive and not offensive to the recipient.

In other ways the "profanity filter" seems excessive as it's unlikely children are using the site although obviously I realise some people find specific words offensive.

The chatroom certainly shouldn't be used as a place for arguments (guilty) or judgemental remarks (guilty) but a supportive environment especially for people new to the forum and a place to discuss feelings, behaviour and different approaches to stop gambling.
