hi Im billy.. im a compulsive gambler

been gambling for over 30 years on everything. ive self excluded myself from all bookmakers shops and online but everytime a new one pops up i gamble again.

been to gam annom 3 times, it realy works. i stoped completely, they gave me every advice possible but unfortunatly i then find excuses to stop going to meetings.

tried gamblocks but im always find away around them. a gambler always finds a way but my challenge is if i can find a way to gamble then i can find a way to stop!

ive got fantastic support of family and friends, im sick of putting them through hell aswell as myself.

Hi Billy, well done on coming on here and admitting you have a gambling problem!, a huge and most important first step.

You've shown stopped in the past and this can be done in the future.

The question which is often really asked, do you yourself truely want to stop gambling? Can you imagine living without gambling? YOu need to 100% certain, and half way measure usually end up with half way results.

YOu have to really want it. Im currently 90 days clean and it feels great to be gamble free.

Try and work out what brought you back to gambling, try counselling , u mentioned gam annom before, GA works for a lot of folk, or one to one etc.

It sounds like you've got good support behind you, so I wish you alll the best on your journey.

Barriers really help at the start, hand over your finances, scratch the cvv number off the back of ur card if gamble online ( i did this and it really helped), TIme money location, take one away and you cant gamble

Hi bilio63,

Welcome to the forum, and well done for your post.

It seems like you’ve been struggling with gambling problems for 30 odd years, and finally, you’ve been able to admit to yourself that you’ve got a problem, and also determined to beat it “(Im going to beat this adiction no matter what!)” this time is just the way forward for you.

It also seems like you are aware of strategies to put in place to help you overcome your gambling problem, only that you haven’t been strict with yourself, or perhaps you've been deceiving yourself.

Now that you feel ready to do whatever it takes to stop it, and that is; taking responsibility of your actions to change your circumstances, it wouldn’t be long when you and your family will begin to see the difference in your situation.

The important thing is that you don’t give up, and you have to be patient with yourself, and just try and take it step by step.

It’s also nice to read that you’ve done without gambling for a whole four weeks already, and you didn’t yield to the urges to gamble; that's fantastic! This proves to you that you are capable of controlling your gambling, and with help and support you’re getting from your family, forum members, and Gamcare presently, you will hopefully be able to overcome your gambling problem. It’s achievable, and you can do it, bilio63!

Pls. don’t hesitate to call our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers in case you feel you need further support. We’re open everyday from 8.00am to midnight.

Thanks again for your post, and pls. keep posting.

Kind regards,

Beatrice

thankyou

its five weeks tomorrow..34 days gone without a touch. but must admit its hard

i can understand why theres alcaolics, drug abusers and smokers. if their adictions feel like this. i wont judge them again

I cant say i feel good cos i dont even if i say ive never felt better. saturday is a bad day. i keep myself preoccupied by playing a pc game all day. sad but it works for me! i dont beleive theres any secret solution..you just have to keep telling yourself. NOT TODAY, everytime you wake up. keep busy and find alternative entertainment.

Hello billio63,

Like yourself, I am almost 30 years of gambling, as well. I have lost several 100k over that period of time. I have had so many quits and applied so many blocks. After 6 months to a year of not gambling, I usually take off the blocks I had in place, only to lose another 20k over another 4-5 month period, and place the blocks back on. Crazy I know.

Although the responsibility ultimately of gaming remains with me, I can't help but feel bitter at those that made it convenient for casinos to take my money. Politicians don't care about the well being of the community or society anymore, just making money. I sometimes wonder if they will open a casino on paydays at work. Hopefully not.

I am on day 17 of this quit. I am cautiously optimistic. The only thing that saves me from not wanting to gamble is the thought of being homeless again.

I wish you luck in your recovery, and if there is anything I can do to help, please don't hesitate to ask.

Regards,

AM

Thanks am, every comment helps. I read every post on the site. Whether we lose a ВЈ1 or £1000 we all go through the same guilt, shame and the will to go on. we lose trust of love ones and hurt everyone around us.
Some stories are inspireing, some sad. But we are all in the sane boat and can beat it!
Hi Amanda, triangle is right you have to really want it and commit 100% but you have cone to the right place take on board all the advice, they have all helped me get this far

Hi Amanda, good for you for making a start. Why not start your own diary? It gives you that chance to get down in words what your story is and how you're feeling. You do have to be committed but you also have to start somewhere as well, and this is your start. I'm rooting for you and know that your will find lots of others on here ready to support you too. Best of luck Amanda, I'll check in on you again later in the week 🙂
