Hi I’m looking some advice and tips to stop me from spending every penny I get on gambling , I have done it for as long as I can remember , no one knows I have this problem as I hide it very well , I am always skint as I leave myself in this situation daily so I can’t treat my family to anything always scrimping & scraping. I put the blocks on my bank accounts and then found ways around that 🤦♀️ I don’t know why I do it to my self cos every time I’ve lost everything I feel like utter s**t and don’t want to be here anymore and then do it all over again as soon as next funds come available. I really need to stop !! My biggest fear is my partner finally clocks on to me and haven to explain my struggles is the last thing I ever want todo. Please any advice  would be helpfull TIA xx
Hello @siannyj,
Thank you for posting on the GamCare forum; I'm really glad you have joined and hope you find the support here helpful.
It sounds like the gambling is having a really negative effect on your mental health, and I imagine it is especially hard feeling as though you cannot speak with your partner about this. Many people affected by gambling harm feel this way, though often people do feel a sense of relief if they do open up with someone they are close with. Please remember you are not alone in this - many people have been in similar situations with their gambling, but with the right support they can and do recover.Â
I would encourage you to speak 1-1 with an adviser by calling 0808 8020 133, contacting us via WhatsApp (020 3031 8881) or on our LiveChat - all available 24 hours. The adviser will be able to talk you through various support available to help you stop gambling. They can also provide you with a free license for GamBan, which blocks access to gambling sites and apps globally on up to 15 devices.
You can find information on self-exclusion schemes here.
You may wish to speak with your GP about how you have been feeling. If you are based in England/ Wales, Mind have lots of mental health resources and can direct to local support. SAMH offer mental health support in Scotland and you can find services through NI Direct for Northern Ireland. You can always call 111 for urgent mental health support. In an emergency, please go to A&E or call 999.
Please keep posting.
Best wishes,
Sophie

You need to come clean. It’s scary. But it’s better than being ‘found out’ and then you can start to recover on your own terms.Â
As the spouse of someone who is addicted to gambling I can guarantee you, you don’t hide it as well as you think you do. The people who love you will be worried about you. Talk to them!!!Â
