Today is Day 1 of my journey to bring gamble-free.
Yesterday was rock-bottom for me; I had £1.8k in my bank and lost it all in the space of 15mins sat on my couch watching a virtual roulette wheel take £100 a spin.
The reality is had I had more in the bank, that would’ve gone too.
Â
A small positive to all this is I’ve never defaulted on any payments, never stolen money to fund my gambling and never brought trouble to my door as a result of it, but the reality is I dont earn enough to lose £1.8k in 15mins.
Â
I have a lot to live for; happily married, daughter, lovely home and family near by - none of which know the full extent of my problem…and I’m determined to overcome this without them needing to.
Â
So yesterday was it for me; I self-excluded through all local bookmakers, self-excluded from all online accounts and set up this as a bit of a journal to document my progress.
Â
My main problem now is how I afford to live through the month with literally nothing in the bank, but I’m adamant better days are coming.
Â
I also promised myself that the time I would spend gambling, to re-invest in exercise and family time…and I’ve just finished a 60min gym session.
Â
Will update daily.
Welcome Jimboo.Â
sounds like some great self awareness from your end identifying that some support is needed. Still spending beyond our means is addictive even if no debt/stealing is taking place. You also don’t want the addiction to escalate so to these in the future. Many friendly faces on here. I look forward to seeing your updates.
@j03t5wg9me) well done! Great 1st post.
So good to list things that you are grateful for and keep those blocks in place.
The gym is a great way to get some feelgood chemicals flowing in the brain to replace the gambling.
Make sure you reward yourself for not gambling.Â
Day 3
So yesterday was a tough day. But not from the urge to gamble, but from seeing all my Direct Debits bounce given I gambled it away.
Â
So I’ve spent the majority of the day following up with the different companies to schedule revised dates (once Ive been paid).
Â
on the positive; I’ve had no temptation to gamble. In fact, quite the opposite. Today I was in the gym at 6am and I felt that set me up in a positive mood for the day.
Â
Tomorrows a different day, but I intend to bring the same mentality.
Affected by gambling?
