Im nearly 21 years old and currently in Unviersity in Southampton, I have been sport better ever since i was 18 and was always good at it , with small to medium stakes and always seemeed to make money and always withdrawing small amounts to help me.
Recently I was playing blackjack for a bit of fun online and found myself slightly down, not much, but i went to roulette to chase the losses. This ended with me depositing 4 times and loosing a lot of money for me. It isnt as much as others i have read on the site but it wasnt an ammount i should lose I then proceeded to stop for a while because i knew it was a bad loss. Recently again i started sports betting again as i knew i was always good at it. For weeks again i was making small ammounts of money and i enjoy it so it was good. One day i was let down for 3 bets within a small ammount of time. This made me take to the casino part again, not because I could imagine myself making money on it, because i was addicted. I then found myself down of course, and deposited numerous times, loosing about 80% of my bank account. This is bad for me, being a student and living away as income doesnt come easy and i have alot of expenses. I dont know what to do now. I enjoy sports betting and want to do it, but in recent months this has been a dangerous path for me, even after years of doing it with no problem.
I dont know what to do and im afraid to tell anyone about it, so i decided to put it on here as i wanted to put it somewhere.
Thanks anyone who read this, any advice or anything would be greatly appreciated.
What do YOU think you need to do?
Good Afternoon
I can only talk from experience and send you the link of a post that I wrote a few weeks back - http://www.gamcare.org.uk/forum/if-you-have-just-lost-savings-please-read
We are of a similar age and my financial situation is much different to yours because I couldnt stop after I lost my own money and ended up borrowing large amounts, please read the above post and ask any questions you need to from people on here.
Wish you all the best mate
Hi Mate,
I can relate to a lot of your story mate and it seems to me that you have a big issue when you lose! You then seem to Chase your losses which is the worst thing you can do. Nearly in all cases when you chase money you've lost you end up losing everything & then find yourself in a vicious circle.
I never had a problem ever with horses or football betting and can control myself fine. However online casino betting I would lose ridiculous amounts in no time & then find myself chasing losses and it's a slippery slope. The best thing you can do mate honestly is to STOP!! If you can't place a bet without excepting losing or you no it will lead to casino betting where you will put nearly all your money in then I'm afraid mate it's not worth the risk of doing any type of betting.
Take it from me you will be far happier and wealthier in the long run by having nothing to do with any type of betting.
Also it's always good to confide in someone like a close friend, family member etc so you have someone for support if you need it at anytime!! Some people get great strength & confidence from talking to someone. If you feel you can't talk to anyone then maybe give Gamcare a call or go on Netline to chat. They will give you advice & strategies on how to stop & control any urges you have to chase the losses.
Goodluck mate and let us know how it's going or if you just wanna chat you can continue to post here.
Paul
If you want to stop gambling there's a lot of advice and support here on measures that will help you do just that. If you just want to stop losing there's very little here that can help.

Strange post to a newcomer?
Hi and welcome
I think a big percentage of compulsive gambalers think they can control some form of gambaling myself included. It takes a while to realise there all connected. It's a sneaky addiction and the parts we feel we have some control over could be considered to be the devil's back door
Unfortunately gambaling isn't like say a drug addiction there's nothing to wean you off. It's litteraly all or nothing
I don't think I've come across a gambaler who has stopped one and controlled another. Not long term anyway. It would seem to me the one you think you're OK with is actually doing the most damage as in you're losing then going straight back to High octane gambaling. So I would suggest a complete severance from all form's
Fortunately you're young. Trust me when I say it doesn't get much better than it is now. But it will get a lot worse.. If you fail to put it to bed now
It's good that you have found a place to pen your thoughts keep writing.

Hiya Davies, my apologies if that came over harsh...I'm mum of lads, youngest is in early 20s, not long out of uni, so I suppose when I read your post, especially "I enjoy sports betting and want to do it, but in recent months this has been a dangerous path for me, even after years of doing it with no problem", I just said what I would have said to him, cos I think you already know what you need to do. Right you say that you have lost 80% of your bank account; with careful budgeting do you have enough to get you to the end of semester and your next student loan payment? Have you maxed out your student loan overdraft as well? I suggest that you go to the Students Union, they will be able to give you advice with debts, and may also be able to offer you counselling. The University will also have a chaplaincy, you don't have to have any religious belief, you could talk openly in confidence, and they will support you. Are you able to speak with your parents? If you were my son, you would get a right bo**ocking, but then I would help you find a way through the mess you have made. Davies, you know you need to stop all gambling...stop now whilst you can still sort it without too many problems. I've just started going to GA meetings; there are young men there who have considered ending their lives because of where gambling has taken them...please, don't go down that road.
Just came back to my post and thankyou for all the advice that everyone has given me apart from Rhoda. But to everyone else thankyou and that small pieces of advice mean a lot to me and i believe have set me in the right direction.
Guess the apology wasn't accepted then 🙂
