Hi everyone

having lost £600 on Saturday I have finally realised I have a problem

I probably have gambled all my life but as I had a good income I didn't realise how much I was betting

I just have to stop now as I realise I could put myself in serious trouble both financially and mentally

my phone has been the problem as it is easy to put bets on at the push of a button

I've put a block on the phone and closed the accounts down

any other advice

feel better owning up

jim

Hi J33 and Welcome,

You could talk to Gamcare and or attend your local GA meetings.

Just make sure you've got the strongest measures in place to prevent future gambling so you can't act when you get the urges.

Use K9 (free) to block the online gambling sites-get someone else to se the password and keep it from you.

Have a look at the 2015 Challenge on the Forum. It's really helped me kick the habit.

Take Care Now.

Sounds similar to me. Just owned up to myself today as well. Speak to Gamcare if you haven't already. And ask for counselling.
I've felt wretched all day but genuinely feel more positive having spoken about it. Not getting carried away but it does feel such a relief to have finally wised up.
Good luck to you

Well done Jim, going to get urges just gotta resist and find something else to do. Reading a book is a good idea! Will learn to enjoy the games overtime and hopeful the betting urges decrease with time. 11 days gambling free for me now and starting to feel better in myself, keep going bud we're all here to support and you can do this.

Thanks again

this weekend is the biggest test as I normally do a load of football /rugby bets my problem was that if I lost on the Saturday I would double up on the Sunday games to recoup my losses

needless to say I lost so what was a small bet turned into a large one

anyway I'm off to stoke to watch my team the eagles play

with the blocker on I can't use my phone all day so hopefully I will stay clear

thanks for all you support and let's hope we can all beat this

Jim

Hi jim,

Welcome to the forum, and well done for your post.

It’s good you’ve come to realise you have a gambling problem, and seeking help to overcome it. At the same time you’ve made efforts to stop yourself from gambling by putting a block on your phone.

However, it’s advisable to replace your spare time/ gambling time with other forms of activities or hobbies to distract you from gambling, and also to avoid being bored, and thus preventing a relapse when in recovery.

Hopefully, you’ll take the advice being offered you seriously, and also read about more strategies from here to help you to overcome your gambling problem. As the saying goes “problem shared, is problem halved”, thus it’s worth the effort you made in disclosing here.

You’ll also find that forum members are very supportive in this sense, and they would give you more ideas on how to stop your problematic gambling (you’ve started getting responses).

I suggest that you read carefully about the following internet blocking software, before installing one of them if you found out it can even serve you better. They’ll stop you from accessing gambling sites. They are:- Gamblock, Net Nanny, and Betfilter.

Maybe you’ll like to call our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers. An adviser would be able to offer you 12 sessions of free counselling if that would help with your recovery. Our lines are open everyday from 8.00am to midnight.

Thanks again for your post, and pls. keep posting.

Kind regards,

Beatrice

Well done mate. I'm with you 100%. Today will be my first Saturday without a bet in many, many years. Am actually looking forward to larking around in the supermarket with my little girl and spending a few quid on something for her instead. Be strong.
