Hi all
I guess you's can take a good guess why I'm here?
Today I blew all my wages in the bookies, on the machines to be exact, and the time is now to take action.
I've been gambling for a good few years now and have easily spent thousands and thousands of pounds.
I successfully quit for 8 months nearly 2 years ago but I've been bad ever since.
I've been to GA meetings before but I'm hoping with the help and advice from others on here it will help me to beat this disease.
I've read quite a lot on the forum already and feel heartened by the success story's.
I need to overcome this addiction and fully concentrate on my beautiful daughter and girlfriend.
I hope this forum will help me and in return I can help others.
Hello JohnJG
Welcome to the forum.
Good start to read around the forum. With each success story you will find change. Self-exclusion might be a good place to start if your problem is predominantly FOBT machines.
Long-term different things work for different people. If something doesn't work - try something else. Many people doing many things on the forum. Ultimately, if you don't make changes then you will end up doing the same thing.
The forum is a big help to many - it can be for you.
Look forward to following your progress.
Blessings
Glint
Thank you Glint.
My girlfriend is taking my bank card and will be in charge of my finances.
One thing I've realised over the last few months whenever I've been up in the bookies is I'm actually chasing the buzz and not the money.
I'm going to try and get that buzz without the gambling and I think seeing my daughter growing up happily will be that buzz.
Good work.
I think handing over finances will really help. If you know you cannot gamble then it should reduce thinking about gambling and your girlfriend will want to help you.
Some chase the buzz, some money, some both. Understanding why you gamble is always going to be crucial to successfully stopping.
Seeing your daughter grow up happily will be far more rewarding than any win gambling ever could be.
Up bright and early for work and knowing that I'll have no money from my wages the next few weeks is really deppressing.
But needs must eh.
Hi JohnJG.
The pain subsides when you have all the proper measures in place.
You must be self excluded and your partner must have control over all your finances. When there is no outlet to gamble you can then work on building a healthy mind again.
Be glad you have some work and it will all come in time.
Counselling and a chat with the doctor are a great help. You can just talk things through
Best wishes from everyone on the forum
Thank you JoyDivider.
