Hi. I always shrugged off the thought of being addicted to gambling. I watched my dad do it growing up and hated it. My problems started off small, a tenner here and there on bingo while on maternity. I then thought to try my luck at slots and won ВЈ250 on my first go. I handled it well for a year but then things got bad between my husband and I and i just didnt have any feelings so losing didnt seem to matter. I began chasing my losses. Dont get me wrong, I wouldnt say Im down on money but I know I have a problem and dont want my child to see all this. I have an account with pretty much every website. I've self excluded from all but two. Its strange cos I dont know why I do it. I dont need the money and winning doesnt give me a buzz, but I do love the bonus rounds. I know I need to completely stop. I did well the last few days by reading books but today I lost ВЈ70 because I didnt walk away at £20 up, I then began chasing Can anyone offer any advice? thanks...sorry for the essay!

I'll have a look at the blocking software thank you 🙂 I tried the free ones but as soon as I was up on free credits I started putting real money in :-/ I think I can break this. I gamble everyday purerly just spending winnings from another day/website. I must get a hobby ha! Thank you very much dean, will look into the software now 🙂

to be honest, I have no idea why I keep two open. I have my T*****a which I control really easy as I dont find that addictive but then I have sky vegas. Thats on cool off at the minute until Saturday, which is going to be the real test. Its strange to think Im here. I used to hoard money away into savings and now I just waste it. Kinda depressing come to think of it. will have a look at the software now, its strange even though I know I have a problem Im trying to find excuses to carry on gambling. Thanks 🙂

Agreed. I think back to before and I was happy constantly but now its highs and lows. I lie to my husband about gambling but he can always tell when I've lost because i get short and snappy, although losing money doesnt matter, its more like being beaten at a game. I really cant explain it. My brother got into 26k debt through online roulette, which I supported him through but could never understand it until now. anyhow I will keep this post updated. Its only been an hour and gettin urges...this will be hard! x

My accounts are now self excluded. I downloaded k9 for my phone but it kept freezing so doing it the old fashioned way...hubby is guna control my money...a day I feared Ha! I hate how this makes me feel.

Hiya Lilly, Youre not weak and pathetic , your addicted to the buzz of gambling and you didn't get all the blocks in place first time round !, you have to keep the time , money location triangle broken at all times , especially in the early stages , if you remove one then you can't bet . You haven't had enough time time away from gambling to realise that your going to get urges and when they happen you have to get through them , the more things that are in place to make that difficult the better .

Now youve excluded and handed over finances to your hubby , it should make things easier for you but you still need that willpower , it doesn't matter how many blocks you put in place if you want to gamble there's always a way !.

If your phones a problem then think about downgrading to a non internet version ?.

You can do this no problem , you just have to want to enough , it gets easier so just take it one day at a time !

Take care Alan

Hi lilly 1. I to played the fruit machines. With many highs along the way. The only help I can offer is when playing the machines I likened the buzz to the same as a drug high. Euphoric when a win came in. But as we press the button again lose. So the cycle starts again till the next win. We can never get enough. Hope your recovery continues.

Hi, only in my second day. Hard walk into work as I would normally have brought scratch cards on the way. Tonight would have seen a trip to a bookies on way home. No cash in my pockets is the first step to helping me break the cycle. I have had the sweats already today, so glad no money on me. Keep persevering it is a hard Road to travel but a battle that can be won.

Lilly you need to get yourself a hobby, if you enjoy the online slots and games would you enjoy video games?

I enjoy writing and reviewing for Ciao (Amazon reviews, you can write about anything from cars to make-up and get paid for it) and I do surveys on Valued Opinions.

I used to laugh at my wife for that, they pay out a pittance, but they do pay a bit and they occupy time!
For example I write three or so reviews a month for Ciao and earn £10-£20, and spend half an hour a night doing surveys on Valued Opinions earning maybe £10 a month. It's free money for clicking buttons, except this time it's guaranteed!

Hi lilly. I too am/was addicted to slots but casino slots. I know about all the highs and lows. The feelings of shame when every last penny is gone. The moodyness etc. It's a hard habit to beat but I'm sure it can be done. Starting a diary has really helped me, I hope it can help you too xx Star xx
