Hi, big step admitting to myself that I have a problem. Mine is trading the FX markets, a few wins here and there, but all up £30K down.

Yesterday I spoke to Tesco bank credit card, and said please do not offer me any more balance transfers, and said please do not offer me any more bank/balance transfers, the reply was sorry this all happens automatically. Great help thanks!!

As soon as account is cleared then I will be closing it down. And then Barclaycard, and then then MBNA

Day 1 starts tomorrow for me. Hopefully debt free in 2 years

Hello @liams and welcome to the forum.

It’s great that you are thinking so positively and looking at steps forward, admitting to yourself that you have a gambling problem is certainly a big step. Well done.

As I am sure you will find, the Forum is a welcoming and supportive space which allows you to talk to others who may also be experiencing similar issues to yourself.

It’s great to have a realistic, achievable plan for the debt repayment. Having a manageable plan is essential and chipping away at it without gambling, it can only go one way. With this in place you can really concentrate on other areas of your recovery and enhance it further.

Could I also give the details for some organisations that can offer some free debt advice.

National Debtline – 0808 808 4000, www.nationaldebtline.org

StepChange – 0800 138 1111, www.stepchange.org

Should you be in need of any further support with your recovery, please feel free to contact the helpline on 0808 8020 133 or via our live chat available from the website https://www.gamcare.org.uk/get-support/talk-to-us-now/  both of which are open seven days a week, 24 hours a day and where one of our advisers will be able to talk, for as long as you need, and look at all the support available to you.

Wishing you all the very best and keep sharing,

Regards

Dan

Hi liams I can't say I know much about gambling on trading but addiction is addiction no matter what your poison is. I understand from previous traders who have posted on here that blocking your access to trading is difficult. With most other forms of gambling you can self exclude and obviously not being able to access websites when you get that urge to gamble is really important and makes it much easier to shake off the thoughts. What can you do to help yourself if you get strong urges? Also have you thought about GA or counselling to talk through your issues. The Gamcare advisors are great can talk things through with you and also refer you for addiction recovery counselling should you feel that that would be helpful. Online was my main addiction through Gamcare I had 8weeks counselling with a fab counsellor and I now attend GA I'm over 7months gamble free. You will read lots on here of people who have gone down these routes......they work ! Best wishes that you overcome this

One month later, £7K further down. I thought i was stronger than this. However good news, i can not get any more credit cards, or increase my limit, so now I am at the end of the line in terms of accessing money. Hopefully this will break the cycle of the last few years. Make some, take it enjoy it treating my wife, then lose more and end up having to fund the account to keep the positions open, whilst all the time when people ask how i am doing always putting a positive spin on things.

Day 1 today (again)

Hi Liam,

I’m also back on day 1 today. Got through it without depositing anything. We will do this. Both of us get through it. How have you got on today?

Best of luck with your recovery.

Thanks

Oliver
