hi all,
i have finally took upon myself to finally put an end to my 10+ years gambling. It has been out of control for some time now and I have just tried to not speak and forget about it. Every week I get paid and instantly go straight to open a new account on a casino online or straight to the bookies on a fobt. As you can imagine the outcome is the same every week losing all my money and not being able to pay bills rent etc. I am now in around 10k debt and in a mess trying to pay them back. Any support guidance help is very much appreciated. Thankyou

Hi, thanks for the help and taking the time out to leave a comment believe me it is really appreciated. I will five those things ago that you have suggested and will take a look at the link you have provided. I’ve had money today and managed to not go to the bookies which is massive for me! So I’m on the right path! Hope all is going good on your journey too 🙂
Hi Huntjamie99,
Welcome to the forum, and thanks for sharing your story.

You also decided to come to our forum and find out about any help options available to you, and it seems like you’re getting a lot of support from some fellow forum members already.
Gamcare can advise you on various strategies to put in place to enable you to control and eventually stop gambling. You’ve got to strict with yourself, follow the advice given here, and also be patient with yourself taking it one step at a time.
To start with, perhaps you can go for Self Exclusion from all the bookies in your local area by contacting the following free number: 0800 294 2060.
How about contacting our free phone Helpline also on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers regarding strategies to apply to help you to overcome your problematic gambling. An adviser can also refer you to 12 sessions of free counselling, and nearest to where you live if you think that would help you to stop gambling.
Again, we can refer you to other charitable organisations if we think you’d benefit from their services.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us on our Helpline for further help and support or, in case you do have some questions to ask or, just to chat about your gambling problem.
Our lines are open everyday from 8.00am to midnight.
I wish you the best in your journey to recovery, and please keep posting!

Beatrice
Hi all,
Just a quick update I am 7 days in now and still haven’t gambled 🙂 I won’t lie and say it has been easy because it hasn’t but I have managed a full week! I still think about gambling a lot and always revert back to the forum and read through different posts which reminds me not to gamble! Finally sorting out repayment plans with my debts and actually feeling pretty good! Really hope I can get this addiction gone and back to my old happy self. Taking it day by day and hopefully I can write a post in the next seven days saying no gambling still. Feeling really positive about overcoming this demon 🙂 thanks guys and good luck to all
I read your first post where you said you just didn't talk about the gambling. Yep, I often thought that if I didn't acknowledge it perhaps it would eventually fade. It's fantastic that you have some days gf. Keep on posting and working on your life. We are all here to do this. tara2
Hi @tara2
Thanks for the comment! Yes I do tend to keep things bottled up but being able to write on here and speak to people in the same situation has helped so much! Feeling really positive about it 🙂
All the best
