Just wanted to say a quick hi to everyone...I registered this morning and this is my first day of many I hope without gambling.

I have posted on the recovery diaries and I will continue to do so.

I took a day off from work today and have taken the whole day reading through many posts which I believe has helped me.

My wife is out on a leaving dinner, and again I'm on here reading through this website trying to take my mind off gambling.

I told my wife yesterday about my problems, and although she knew I had a problem...She didn't know the extent of the problem/debt.

When my wife come home from work today, we sat down and started to plan a way to get out of debt and I feel a lot better. She's been very supportive and now it's over to me, she's got my cards and now has access to my online banking.

Here's to the first day without gambling and hopefully a gambling free future.

I look forward to communicating with many people on this website in the near future.

Thanks

Jonathan

Well done Jonathan and welcome you have taken a massive step in the right direction by telling your partner and giving her control you should start a diary to I find this helps a lot.

Be strong......ste26

Thanks. I will start a diary. Early morning on day 2 - feeling ok, but still hurting on the cash I have blown away. I now realise that I can't chase or I will be close to uncontrollable debt. I must keep thinking of the hurt during my last loss.

Hello Jonathan and welcome to our Forum.

It must have taken a lot of courage to tell your wife about what has been happening and it is very positive that you are now working as a team to put things back in order. Please, be mindful that it might be difficult to manage your recovery on your own and there is no need, since there is a lot of help at GamCare to support you through this. There is also support available for your wife or anyone else who maybe affected by the situation.

You're welcome to contact the GamCare advisers on our freephone 0808 8020 133. We're open from 8am until midnight, 7 days a week. Alternatively, you can use the Netline at:

http://secure.gamcare.org.uk/netline

Wishing you all the best,

Ana

Thanks all. It really means a lot. It's nice to spend an evening without betting on the football...

Went to the pub with the wife for a couple of pints and back for a curry. Day 3 tomorrow and the weekend, but got things planned to fill my day.

Thanks again,

Let's beat this!

Hi all

My name is David and today is hopefully a day for the better. Yesterday I took my girlfriends card and spent money that wasn't mine for gambling. I have hit rock bottom and I feel ashamed an lost. My girlfriend deserves better but she has said she will stick by me if i get some help. So I am trying to change my life for the better. I don't know how to get the help I need if anyone could help me I would extremely appreciate it. I gamble on everything shop, mobile, online. I believe I am really addicted and not a bad person but I have brought shame on myself and ruined the trust of my girlfriend. Has anyone else been in this situation can you please tell me how or easy to overcome this horrible addiction.

Many thanks David

Hi David

Welcome to the site and well done for facing up to your problem, like all of us. I don't have any experience of betting shops but I am sure many contributors here can advise you on how to self-exclude yourself from them. Self-excluding online is usually easy to do, as well as installing blocking software such as K9 (free) or other similar ones. Self-exclusion/blocking is a massively helpful first step. Also it's a good idea to start a Recovery Diary - have a read of those already started - very inspiring stuff, and it will also make you realise that you are not alone and many people have had similar experiences to your own.

Could I also suggest that you start a new thread under the 'New members forum' - that way you can introduce yourself and will probably have more replies.

Good wishes for the future.

Joanna
