my name is Steven

i have been gambling for 9 years and i am 26. i have hit rock bottom and finally admitted my problems to loved ones. i attended a gamblers annonymous meeting yesterday and opening up has taken the weight and pressure away. gambling has always had a grip over my life and dominated my every waking thought. i want and need help, a shoulder to cry on. i have felt powerless and overwhelmed by the feeling of defeat against this disease. i understand this is my own doing, but have nowhere else to turn.

i will defeat this, of that i am sure. i will have a future.

Hi Steven

Well done mate for recognizing you have an addiction and taking action to deal with it.

You should be proud of opening up to your loved ones and for going to the GA meeting.

At 26 you are still young enough to put the gamblering years behind you and have a happy and fulfilling life so take comfort in that, and take strength and comfort in the fact that there are a lot of good people on here who will listen to you and advise you.

I myself have not gamabled for 5 months or so now and as each day passes I can honestly say I think about it less and less and can honestly say that I feel that I am now 'addicted' to not gamble!.....and that Steven is an addiction I would recommend to anyone!

You do have a future mate, and a great one at that.....Let you be the master of your own destinty, not the filthy gambaling demons!

Be strong mate and victory will be yours!

All the best to you

Simon.

Hi Steven,

Welcome to the forum, and thank you for your post too.

I’m glad you’ve realised and admitted to your gambling problems, and aiming to do something about it.

Gamcare is where you’ll get the help you’ve been looking for to overcome your gambling problem, and the shoulder that you can cry on.

We’re ready to help you every step of the way if you follow the advice that we offer you. We can also refer you to 12 sessions of free counselling if that will help you to stop gambling.

I suggest that you contact our free phone Helpline on: 0808 8020 133, and speak to one of our advisers. An adviser can refer you to counselling, and nearest to where you live.

Meanwhile, continue to read from this forum, and post as well whenever possible, as that helps with your recovery. The Forum members are very supportive and encouraging, and some of them would be able to advise you from their experience when they get to know the details of your gambling history.

Maybe, you’ll like to join our live chat too, which is held every day from 8.00pm to 9.00pm.

To join the chat, log into the forum first and then click on the following link

http://www.gamcare.org.uk/chat

You'll then be taken to a page where you can click on 'The GamCare chatroom' and join us.

I wish you well in your recovery, and pls. keep posting.

Kind regards,

Beatrice
