Hi,
First time posting on any of these sites. I have finally had to admit to myself (after borrowing money from family because I couldn’t cover some bills), that I have a gambling problem.
I haven’t gambled on any other sites other than the online raffle sites, the instant win kind. I have been totally hooked and my £2.99 a go has certainly racked up.
Anyone got experience with these? They truly are the work of the devil. I can’t tell my partner and the lack of self control is worrying.
Hi there 🙂
I've recently had the experience of having to borrow money from family for the same reason, and have definitely been subject to raffle sites such as you've described.
Admitting you have a problem is definitely the first step, and you're not on your own with the compulsions or self control. Even though they aren't typical 'big bets' I feel your pain how it can spiral. Self exclude on everything possible, change your merchant control on your cards to block gambling transactions, have a look into gamstop.
I know you mentioned you can't tell your partner, and I know how telling someone can feel like it's impossible because you're embarrassed. I recently told a close friend after I knew that I couldn't handle this all on my own, and it was one of the hardest things for me to ever say out loud, having to explain why I have no money because I've just gambled away my entire salary. The reality is you will need support, and please trust me when I say the weight you feel of everything lifts when you share the problem, as painful as it is to first talk about it.
I hope you have someone to speak to and know that you're not on your own, I'm early in my journey too.
