Hello, I need help with my gambling addiction.

Over the past couple years I've paid all my bills but gambled the rest of it. I thought I was in control but obviously I wasn't.

I got made redundant last month and have just gambled all the money I had left. I would like direction on what to do now in terms of fully quitting and getting help and or support.

Thank you

Hi,

Well done for admitting you have a problem, that’s a massive achievement.

I’ve been on this site 2 years and I went on the group chat a lot, and I was told several times, over and over again, to talk to someone, anyone! Be completely honest and tell them everything. Not only will it be a massive weight lifted, it’s also the first step in your recovery.

GamCare can also refer to you counselling too, this will be another big step in your recovery.

Last year I was honest with my husband about my gambling addiction, well,  I say honest, I wasn’t completely honest, I held a lot back! Fast forward 18 months and the debt has doubled and I was in a worse position than ever!

I hit rock bottom, I had to tell him everything!! But I am now 10 weeks gamble free and so determined this time.

Wish you all the luck and support in the world.

Claire x

Hi  ml333

Thank you for sharing your experience and current situation there is help available through GamCare that can offer you 121 treatment support with a Practitioner either through talking or completing an online CBT Course GameChange both will help you to not only understand your relationship to gambling but also what options and other choices are available to you.

You can contact a Helpline Advisor on 0808 802 0133 who can support you in making a referral to either service and the money Guidance Service that offer money management advice or Payplan that can help you to contact any debtors if you have any.

I have included links that provide more information and also how to access our online themed chats which also include Peer support and Practitioner advice I would encourage you to take the next step and make contact even if just to ask any questions you may have.

Well done for asking for help as this can be a difficult acknowledgement but it also can take away a lot of stress and worry when you are struggling. Please also speak with your G.P. if you have any health concerns that have been impacted by your problem gambling.

We wish you all the best on your recovery journey.

It’s very sad for me to learn that you’re going through hard times as a result of gambling addiction. Identifying it and seeking help towards remedy matters a lot! Here's a step-by-step guide on what you can do:
Acknowledge the Problem: The first vital step is admitting the problem. Recognize that addiction can happen to anyone; hence you are part of the problem.
Self-Exclusion: Make a decision to exclude yourself from gambling sites or any other gambling location. There are also many gambling operators that provide help in limiting your access to their websites through self-exclusion.
Professional Help: Contact someone qualified to treat problem and pathological gamblers. They may offer personalized counseling, treatment, as well as tools that will enable you to recover from the addiction.
But remember; there is hope and that’s a very significant step for you to have sought help. Your gambling addiction might be hard to conquer, but with perseverance, help from others, and proper tools, you can beat it and take back control over your life.
