Having gambled for over 30 years this is the first step to doing something about it. I have a lovely wife and kids but that doesn't stop me risking it all.

Feel such an idiot but hoping that finally taking this step will be the beginning of the end have lost thousands over the years.

Have a call with a councillor on Wednesday and even posting this message the shame I feel is unbelievable.

Hope some of you can give some advice.

Welcome

Well done for being here. You are in the right place. I have been where you are now and I would love to give you advice but at this stage, I will say this. I did not stop in time and I lost my family because of this and the actions that I took back then. Then I lost another family because of the same reason. By not changing direction we risk it all because we take our S*t right to the limit to see if it will do something else and when it does happen we are struck by lightning and surprise.

Do not get struck by lightning or surprise because your brain will never tell you to change that direction naturally. You need to force that change.

I wrote earlier that you need to change your state/ change your program to be able to think about your addiction differently. I believe that more firmly now than ever before. That is done through shock (hand on stove effect) therapy and repeating new actions to remove old ones. All in all you will need to take a journey of discovery so you know more about how your mind functions in different scenarios. I recommend NLP/CBT or Gestalt as therapy forms.

This form has great potential as so many in recovery are here to give you their advice. Take them. See where and what is the best fit for you and connect. We are flock animals and can not do this alone however hard we try we need that extra help. finally. Be kind to yourself ( no one else will) Be determined and never give upp.

Best

C

Morning needtostopthis,

Thanks for sharing your story.

Greediness and gambling goes hand in hand. Sometimes, both can be fatal if not managed properly. Gambling can make you feel worthless, and make life seem pointless and meaningless. Help are available.

You can divert your energy and find healthy replacement for your gambling such as short walks, reading, doing up the house, gardening, join a walking group, write a novel, painting, drawing, volunteering etc. Anything else that doesn't harm you financially, emotionally, and spiritually.

I hope this helps.

Xoi

Ps stay sane, safe, calm, and take one day at a time

Well done for posting here. It takes a lot of bravery as it’s like holding up a mirror to yourself and feeling genuine feelings.

I am only a couple of days in and feel I’ve made a lot of progress because, for the first time, I’m holding that mirror...and I hope you feel that too.

Good luck with the counselling and please let us know how it goes if you feel comfortable doing so. Gamcare can help in many ways so feel free to have a look around the website and forum and see what help is on offer.

The most important thing is everything can be positive from this point on, thanks to you taking a positive step.
