i am also struggling. It started when I was younger I live in a seaside town so was always in the arcades. It started off as a tenner here and there and then it got worse and I would lose all my wages in one day and have to ask to borrow money.
i moved away to place where there was no arcades and I thought everything would be okay but then I started online gambling was just 20 quid to begin with and it started spiralling out of control. I always make sure my bills are paid but then whatever I have left I’m spending on gambling and leaving myself short on money meaning I’m having to use my credit cards with then means I’m having to pay more back the following month and it’s just a constant cycle. I’ve been taking on extra hours at work with is making me tired to try and pay everything that I owe.
i have been trying to pass my driving test and had some money saved and I’ve even spent that and now I’m struggling to pay for my lessons. My partner knows I gamble but he doesn’t know how bad it is and when he asks me about money I have to make up excuses of why I don’t have any.Â
i know now it’s time that I get myself sorted I’m so miserable. I think oh I might win and I can pay all this stuff off but instead I’m putting 100s in and getting nothing back.Â
Theres lots of advice ive seen on here over the years and the best things to do over experience ive found and if you do these there are the best possible chances of remaining gamlbe free (im onw on day 825 gamble free and i was terrible for the first few years on here as there was no gamstop around!!!!):
1) Join the 3 blocks to stop you using uk casinos, local bookies and online betting: Moses, sense and gamstop google them very easy to sign up do it straight away over the first week or two.
Â
2) Set up all bills to come out just after you get paid each month, then once bills are paid transfer to rest to someone you trust with youre money....... i have sent it over to my dad for five years and he gives me money when i need it..... recently i havent even needed any. All this means you will have money if you need it but its not available to gamlbe away!!!!! make sense.
Â
3) when you go out dont take credit cards and debit cards they are a fuel for gamlbing in town....... just ask that person for cash and if needed provide receipts when you return or the tangible object youve bought or a reason for your spending.
Â
back in 2016 without this in place i spent 8k after bills, in 2021 i spent 500 pounds with this in place and paid off my mortgage with the rest id saved........ It works i can tell you that...... they are huge changes to make.... you will get tempted still but when youre in the place to gamble and feel temptation it wont be as easy to gamlbe and you wont have the funds on you to make a big mistake.

All the best adam xxxx

Hi Adam, Thankyou for your reply.Â
gambling seemed to get worse for me during covid as I work in retail I was still working full time and wanted an escape when I got home from work.Â
Over the past 2 years it’s just got out of hand i only got paid on Wednesday and I’ve already spent all my wages I had to work nearly 200 hours for that money and I think that’s what made me realise I can’t keep doing this.Â
My partner was away last week for work and that’s when I ended up gambling all of my wages. He rang me when he was on his way home and I just broke down in tears and told him the truth of what’s going on. He was really supportive and understanding.Â
i have put a software blocker on and also blocked my bank card from letting me gamble just incase. I said to my partner I’m not even doing the lottery anymore as that’s another 40 a month I don’t need to spend so I didn’t buy any lottery or thunderball on Friday and Saturday so it’s all a start.Â
Affected by gambling?
