Good morning everyone,

Checking in with one more gamble free week. Recovering from a gambling addiction is not going to be easy but we are all making changes to our daily routines and lifestyles in order to kick this habit. Most of us will face temptations on a daily basis but try to remain strong and take one day at a time.

Have a great weekend.

Mike

Hi all,

Well im back, I had a relapse and have been gambling the last couple of weeks, i thought i had this thing cracked after 4-5 month gamble free, but it crept back up on me and i started off with a small bet, no problem i thought, then it got bigger and bigger until lost all i could get my hands on again. Feel stupid and a loser at present but i am more determined this time.

I hope i can rejoin the group, this saturday i will be checking in on day 3.

Thanks D

in the first instance when we admit we need to change its tough to break the habit, but its possible...... so the habit i am now gonna break is being a lazy b*****d and be here for you all more, it took the loss of a good soldier and friemd from this challenge to make me realise this and i for 1 cant wait til he returns.

god bless

del 🙂

Disappointingly I had a bet (only the one then I stopped) yesterday evening!! I did not lose any money luckily but I did break my committment to myself. So what would have been Day 253 today is now Day 1:(. I have now had 2 slips this year, once in March and once yesterday but as I have this far made it nearly all year without gambling or losing money I will try not to be too hard myself.

Mr B - you have made a lot of effort with this group and I regret letting down the table but taking part has definitely helped and now I think time that I moved on from the group - thanks for all your efforts and thereby helping me stay ganmble free substantially all year. Good luck to you and the rest of the group with their recoveries!

Good afternoon everyone!

Apologies for the late arrival of the update this week and for the lack of activity on my part on the forum this week – I’ve been mental busy! Santa arrived at Dobbies this morning so I’m trying to contain a hyper 4 year old…………I was at an awards ceremony on Friday and my site won a big award (superb!)……..I’m also battling with mice in the house – they’ve chewed through the dishwasher hose (twice now – grrrrrrr) and there’s been no more Mr Niceguy this week. Tough measures. Sadly I aint no plumber although I’m learning quickly! Today is the day I win.

After today there’s 7 more check ins required to carry us through to the 4th January and a New Year (only 6 for delboygolf and SuzyLemon – you guys are awesome!). 7 more updates, 7 more counts of days and lots of celebrations in between. It does feel like it could be a bumpy road between now and Christmas, with gambling taking another one of our soldiers this week. Lostafortune has been a mainstay of the Challenge throughout the year and thankfully it was just a very small blip on Friday that saw LAF return to Day 1. I completely understand that it may be time for you to move on LAF and I’d like to thank you for your support of me, your teamwork and all of your contributions to this thread. While I’m sorry to see you move on, I also realise that a recovery journey is one that has to be taken by doing the things that feel right at a moment in time. I’m sure I speak for the group in wishing you a safe new journey and hope to see you popping on from time to time to give us an update on progress. Take care soldier.

A quick pause for thought – Christmas is 5 weeks on Thursday – gift yourself, your family, your friends and your future the best present you ever could – a gamble free you. That’s a gift that never stops giving…………..

A quick word of thanks to GamCare for unlocking the ability for me to edit the front page of the challenge again – I’ll make my first attempt at this with the new list of soldiers once I’ve posted the update. If it works then I’ll be using that to log in the check ins as per the old site.

In the shorter update this week I’ll cover off the headlines, welcome old and new soldiers, highlight the celebrations from the week gone by and those that are coming in the next 7 days, plus provide the counts via the roll of honour. So here goes………………

Headlines for the Week

It’s been a tough week with 6 missing soldiers not managing back to base via a check in, but with a couple of returning soldiers and one new (plus a potential new!) we have a 27 strong team marching into the penultimate full week of the month. Our retention was a lower than standard 81, however each of us will carry a hugely impressive 167 days each into the new week. The challenge has now delivered over 35 years of gamble free living for all who have participated and it’s very likely that our total savings since the beginning of 2014 will exceed £650,000 by the time I’m updating again next week.

Welcome to Soldiers……Old and New!

Welcome back to jelle and to D70 – great to see you both back. D70 – it’s a tough journey mate and one that needs to based on experience and strong foundations. Dwelling on the past is harmful – look to the future and taking your life back. Always here for you soldier.

Welcome to a new soldier – slotsnomore. It’s great to have you with us and I hope this challenge helps you retain focus on the most amazing prize of being gamble free. We’ve had a great retention of new soldiers and I hope you keep this success rate high!

Doc92 – apologies for not picking up your post earlier in the week. It’d be superb to have you with us through the rest of the year and with a couple of weeks gamble free behind you it seems you’re making a great start. Please just check in this coming week as per the rules and asks of the front page of this site and I’ll add you to the team officially next Sunday.

Celebrating Milestones………….last week and the next 7 days…………..

Here are the significant milestones celebrated in the week just past:-

I Wished hit the Double Century and now has 202 days of gamble free living behind her – congratulations Suzanne – brilliant going!

Elfie17 broke through 20 weeks of recovery as she approached the 150 day mark. 6 weeks away from half a year Elfie – that’ll be a great Christmas present! Well done soldier, proud of you!

Had they checked in this week we would have also recognised Adam Price joining the Century Club and Matty1658 reaching the half century – hope you are still going strong soldiers.

And the milestones coming up this week:-

Mr Brightside will hit the 50 week mark next Sunday – Scambling, where are you? With a check in this week, Scambling will also be on 50 weeks and a significant step closer to the full year 2 weeks on Saturday!! Can’t wait!

Mile End will become the newest member of the Century Club on Tuesday – a major milestone Mile End and one I know will carry great significance for you. Really looking forward to you joining the triple figure brigade!!
