Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with ADHD quite recently (26 now) and have had problems with gambling since before I was a teenager. Now having the ADHD diagnosis I am able to understand more why I have episodes of being incredibly impulsive without thinking of the consequences. Does anybody else have any experience in dealing with gambling issues for ADHD sufferers? Or, does anybody have ADHD and a gambling issue? Thanks in advance

It's important to remember that not everyone with ADHD will experience gambling issues, and many of them lead productive lives. But it's crucial to be aware of the possible risk factors and to get support if gambling starts to become a problem.

Reach out to mental health professionals who can conduct assessments and offer the proper treatment if you or someone you know is struggling with issues related to ADHD and gambling. When customized to the individual's specific needs, including any co-occurring ADHD symptoms, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and other therapeutic approaches can be effective in treating gambling problems.

I think since some people with ADHD frequently struggle with impulse control, it can be challenging to control the urge to gamble, especially when an opportunity arises. It's important to implement financial safety measures, such as limiting access to money, creating separate accounts, and enlisting the help of a family member or financial advisor who you can trust. So that you won't carelessly spend all of your money

It's significant that you've received an ADHD diagnosis, as it can help provide some clarity on impulsive behaviors. I can't personally relate to gambling issues, but I'm sure there are people in this community who have faced similar challenges. It might be helpful to connect with them and hear about their experiences and coping strategies. Remember, seeking professional help and support from loved ones can also be crucial in managing these issues. You're taking a positive step by reaching out, and I wish you the best on your journey to manage ADHD and gambling issues.
