Hi everyone,
My first post and looking for some guidance, back in 2011 at 17 years of age I was allowed to register with quite a big name gambling company there were no checks made to verify my age and this is where it all began.
Anyway cut a long story short I ended up being able to deposit and gamble 21 thousand pounds with no age checks being in place and all at the age of 17.
Now 27 years of age and over coming my problem I’ve tried to get this highlighted at how negligent this company was.
I have been in touch with the company and they’ve accepted some responsibility and given me back a very small figure compared to the amount I ended up losing and the pain and misery it has caused in the following years and through my teenage years and all through my adult life for the last long 10 years.
I have now escalated the issue to the gambling commission and will await there findings. I just wondered if anybody else has had a similar situation as if I can prevent just one person going through what I have done by opening up what I’ve hidden away for so long then perhaps it’s the way to go?
Thanks everyoneÂ
I don’t have any advice but I want to say well done for escalating this
Hi Luke111, although I understand where you are coming from with this can I ask you, did you tell this company you were 17 or that you were over 18? If you did put your correct date of birth then yes they were negligent.
I agree some checks should have been made and from my experiences I had to send a copy of my ID to prove my age although this may not have been in place 10 years ago.
It's sad that you lost so much money at a very young age but recovering from gambling, to me, is about taking responsibility for my own actions. They didn't make you keep losing that money and I know how as a compulsive gambler we keep going chasing losses until we hit rock bottom.
Glad that you have had some success with raising this issue with them and hope you are now gamble free
If you put that you were 18 back then, then you probably have no chance. And forget it all anyway. Stay away from gambling.Â
a decade is a long time , the operator will be fully aware they wont have been required by law to keep your information that long and no court will touch itÂ
im sorry to say but you are chasing up a dead end focus on the recovery
Affected by gambling?
