can gamcare circulate emails to all gambling sites or bank details to get them to deny access to anyone who is a problem gambler and tries to sign up to an online gambling site.

Hi eckybhoy,

Thank you for your post and for your suggestion.

As a charity, we formost provide clinical support for people who are affected by problem gambling. This includes information, advice, emotional support and face to face counselling.

If you would like to block yourself off access to online gambling opportunities, there are a number of ways which you might want to consider.

You can install a blocking software on your PC. We usually suggest gamblock (www.gamblock.com) or betfilter (www.betfilter.com). You can take a look at those online. They prevent your computer from accessing any gambling sites for the duration of the license, which is payable.

Furthermore, you can look at your bank account and change it to an account (most banks offer this as a "basic" account) which doesnt give you permission to use the bank card details online.

As you will know, there are many gambling sites available online and they are based or registered in different countries. It wouldnt be feasable for GamCare to try and work on a list of online gambling operators, which would need to be updated daily. In addition we would need to negotiate with each one of them. This is not part of our mandate. The companies referred to above (gamblock and betfilter) are doing a good job in finding ways to block all these sites.

If you have already signed up to sites which you regularly use, you can ask to be self-excluded. UK based online providers will offer this. However, if the sites you use are based elsewhere, they may not.

Maybe you would like to talk your situation through with an advisor either on the freephone HelpLine on 0808 8020133 or via our online NetLine http://icontact.mplaurora.net/ChatApp/JoinChat.aspx.

Both services are open daily from 8am to midnight.

I hope this helps.

Kind wishes

Gabriele

Hi

I have tried self excluding from a whole range of sites but there are always new one`s popping up and for me being a problem gambler this is a problem.

Are there any filters that you can put in place which are free?

Just thought I would ask the question.
