Hi all. I'm on my journey yet again and looking to get help where ever I can. I have been looking for an iPhone app which you can set a counter for how long it's been since you last gambled. I've found a couple but I also found gambling Terminator which also monitors you, sends you reminders and congratulation messages when you reach milestones. It also has feature like where to get help and recognising your triggers. Only problem is that it's for residents of New South Wales.

Does any one know of something similar or any other good apps to help beat our addiction and show goals and rewards for reaching milestones.

Love to hear from you.

Simon

That's not bad for a time counter but I really thought there'd be something based solely on beating gambling addiction.

There's so many apps for gambling why not one to help the lives of the people suffering with addiction?

There should be.

Cheers. It's a good counter but still not a complete app that I was hoping to find. I guess what I'm after just doesn't exist.

Hi New Start,

thanks for posting this. GamCare are exploring options for how technology can better help problem gamblers and Apps are certainly part of that equasion.

It would be helpful to hear your ideas here and if others want to contribute to the thread too - its all useful feedback.

Wishing you well in your recovery.

I too use the cleantime counter and find that really useful, even have a photo in the background of me happy and enjoying a holiday as a motivation. What would make it better is a way of counting up money saved by not gambling, say set it at £10 a day or so much per month. Great app if you dont always get time to come on here all the time and enter your days off.

There are plenty of day counter apps and days since...... But if the app could recognise when you reset it like evenings or weekends and send you encouragement or offer advice about bank card and self exclusion or remind you to write in your recovery diary these sort of things would help. Something that would be easy to go to easier than a bookies or gambling site for a quick reminder of how far you have come. It could also let you know what you can do with the money you haven't wasted if you put in how much you usually lose. It would need to be able to be tailored to individuals with options on how and when you gamble or feel the urge to. Lots of ideas but I really hope something can be developed to help us in our efforts to stay away from gambling in the ever more digital world we live in.

How about attending Ga there you can celebrate your gamble free days on a regular basis face to face with other compulsive gamblers also you may learn its not about the money as so many on this site seem to be fixated by

GA is great but it's not for everyone. What I would like is a sort of virtual sponsor who gives you tips and motivation when it works out you are at you weakest. It could even know when you are in or near a bookies for prolonged period and offer advice or some sort of message. I find talking face to face difficult and the nature of my job mean I am rarely in the same place from one week to the next so attending a weekly meeting and building trust and friendships is just not possible for me.

I haven't yet. I know there are a lot of different ways to get help but really my question was when we constanly have a smart phone on us these days that can do pretty much anything, I am surprised that there isn't an app that can give quick and easy access to all the support I and others need in one place rather than just a day counter.

something that combined information and advice from gamecare, location and times of your local GA meetings, access to forums and counselling but also used technology to recognise your weakness and circumstances of your failures and triggers to offer support and advice automatically, exactly when you need it. GSP to recognise when you're somewhere you shouldn't be. All this could be combined with a day counter that gives you cheers at milestones.

I know a lot of these things are available in various places but everyone from Facebook to my bank have a website but they also have an App specifically designed for use on your phone because that's just the way technology is going and it's easier and simpler to use.

New start

I completely agree and my first port of call when I stopped gambling was also looking for an app to do the things you mention.

There are loads for stopping smoking and there should be for stopping gambling I couldn't agree with you more. There is definitely a market for this !!!!
