Am booked in for next Tuesday evening for my first session with BREAKEVEN and just had a consultation at Recovery Hub Ipswich. Really is becoming clear how much i have dissappointed and let down Becca and my family with my actions recently, the guy i spoke to said much the same about his feelings when he was dealing with addiction. He did make me feel positive in the fact that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and i will be able to beat this but it is going to take some really intense work.

Hi Matty,

First of all welcome to the forum, secondly so much of your story I can relate to, like many others probably can as well !! The one that hurts our loved ones most is the lies that us gamblers tell but we are all world class at it because it comes hand in hand with gambling ! You said you had your gambling under control till some 4 months ago but my gut feeling is you never have had it under control and like us all and had just run out of excuses to use !! When my wife found out for the 3rd time about my gambling on 27th Dec last year I was booted out and lived alone from her and my 2 boys for about 3 months and it was not nice one bit !! I had made numerous promises to her before about stopping gambling and had numerous amounts of time without gambling and life was good but when you let your guard down, you will slip back to the old ways and the outcome is obvious!! Everyone is different in what works for them but I had some councilling sessions through Gamcare which I found very helpful, also I attend GA meetings which help with my recovery and most importantly being open and honest with people especially our loved ones as I know I'm in the last chance saloon and I don't want to lose my family !! You have to do it for yourself first and foremost and obviously by the sounds of it you don't want to lose your girlfriend and rightly so !! Have a read of my diary it might help you ? Hope you can get on the path to recovery and I will look out for future updates.
