Hello my first post here and am not in a good place.  Been gambling for 8 years currently at rock bottom.  Five days ago lost every penny I possess on three card poker.  Lost money at first on slots then after treading water lost 13 consecutive hands on three card poker increasing stakes.  In end lost £1200 and currently have pennies in bank account.  I post here as am looking for help on how to recover financially as haven't eaten for 5 days and have limited energy like gas.  I went on a YT ex gambler video but can't find information on how to recover it seems gamblers don't say how to recover from rock bottom.

@stefan75 Recovery takes time, it's not overnight. There's time away from gambling which gets your mind and financials back a bit and then recapturing the life which gambling took.

The second part of recovery comes from looking at yourself as why your gambling changed from a problem to a symptom and making changes to yourself to help you from relapsing.

For me it came from attending a Gamblers Anonymous room week after week and living according to their guidelines. It came from meeting and seeing other people like me who understood me and didn't judge me. Slowly the days and weeks add up. That's it, no short cuts, no quick fix, just a desire to give up and get better and regular attendance at meetings.

Some people do counselling, some do CBT, some try willpower but my experience is GA.

Any questions?

Chris.

unfortunately this tory gov and their band of merry men doesn't give a flying monkey about the mental issues these lockdowns are causing

gambling addiction and lockdowns are really really dangerous

dont know what else i can say im afraid , write a letter to your local mp expressing the need to get these restrictions lifted so we can get back to our normal lives ?

Hi Stefan and welcome,

I am sure gambling advice is welcome, however, your personal health (food and heat) must be paramount for the next day or 2. As Adam says a food bank visit should take precedence. I have little knowledge about this so perhaps admin can assist.

In respect of gas are you on a meter? Am i right there is an emergency amount available to you?

Your personal safety and health must come first.

Best

I agree with Bal and adam your priority atm is your wellbeing if you need help with food and gas speak to citizens advice. And in regards to the above comment i have to disagree ..yes there needs to be more support in place for people in lockdown but this lockdown is in place for a reason you cant just expect the goverment to let you go back to your normal life when theirs a pandemic

Contact your local Church. They will feed you. No questions asked. Contact Stepchange for advice on managing your debts. Make sure that money coming in doesn't go straight out to debts. Open a new account. Get your money paid in there till you can sort out the mess. Keep what's yours and put the debts on the back burner. The priority is food and shelter. Call Gamcare for advice about help with stopping gambling.

Thinking of you.
