Hi Amanda.Â
Me personally i would get to know someone a bit more. The person who I am with now yes we dated and then after months became partners then I told her that I ad a history of gambling. Which in my case was lots over 20 years. The love and trust we ad for each other shone through and the support came.
wish you all the bestÂ
Hi
Openness and honesty is a key foundation of recovery. Its crucial and really is the most important thing when starting a recovery.
The answer to your question is in your heart.
The issues are obviously whether its likely to scare anyone off. It shouldnt do if they have substance and you word it well/tactfully at the right moment If its a serious relationship and the partner sees something in you then they deserve to know
If its a new relationship maybe they dont need to know unless it gets more serious. Love and new relationships can be blind unless a true bond develops .
Ive had partners blurt out the most serious things at the wrong time and it seriously affected the relationship...not particularly because of the information but when they chose to blurt it out at the worst possible moment
Its your decision but the golden rule is that people you love and trust should know especially if they are involved financially with you.
We are not saying tell people at work or the bank manager. Â We are saying that people you love and trust can be great to confide in and be a great moral support for you
It makes you stronger and its actually about your pride and self respect. You dont have to cower your head in shame...You should be proud to be honest during a recovery...very proud of your honesty
Best wishes from everyone on the forum
