I never thought I could stop but with support, advice and this website I have and also used the one day at a time approach.
Was I a liar - yep. Did I deceive people to borrow money to gamble - yep. Did I jeapordise everything in my life - yep. Did my marriage almost collapse - yep, yep.Did I get into debt with payday loan firms - oh yeah.
My point is I sense the despair people feel but you can stop and have a happier life with all the consequences you have to potentially address. I'm not saying it is easy but you can be happier as I am with a realistic approach.

I am a supportive girlfriend of an addict and debt has come on me he ran from it.

40k how do you go on yes I cry with the pain of loving and supporting a man through this addiction.
You have to keep going it will control you and you can't let it eat you.

How did you over come debt?
Heaven
I started a Debt Management Plan with the charity Stepchange.
They pay off the debts proportionally each month through one direct payment to them which they work out through an income and expenses questionnaire. I have three more payments to make.
It hasn't been easy but it's certainly given me a lot of peace of mind not receiving letters, phone calls, texts, e-mails and even knocks on the door from creditors.
