Ok, so this way of thinking really helps me....it might not help you but I thought I'd share it.
If I were a smoker and I'd given up smoking I would be patting myself on the back and thinking what a great job I'd done. I wouldn't be trying to find a way to get back all the money I'd spent on f**s over the years. I would simply accept that money was gone...literally up in smoke.
I'm thinking of my gambling loses like that. If I'd smoked 20 a day for the last 10 years (at 7 quid a packet a day) the amount of money spent would be about the same as the amount I've lost. I wouldn't be trying to get it back...there's no way I could. So, as far as finances are concerned I'm now an ex-smoker 🙂
P.S....substitute drugs, alcohol, shopping, food. My point is that this is only addiction where we feel we can get back what we've lost. But we can't x
