Hi Phatstuff,

I have read your introductory post from new members intro which has already received some inspiring replies.

Coming to this Forum is a step in the right direction, people on here are very supportive of each other and you will not be alone in your recovery if you keep posting.

You are right about the 'grey feeling' which is very common in situations where one want to change from what they have been doing for a long time; the sense of lost, and the feeling of emptiness as the human brian tries to adjust to the void as you are not doing what the brain is use to doing. But like you mentioned, you know that you cannot keep living that life.

What you can do now is to replace this void with other things that will not cause you the pain that you mentioned your gambling has put you through, perhaps you can look at some of the things you enjoyed doing before you got into gambling and start doing them again to occupy you.

There are also physical stratergies that you can put in place to make it less eassier for you to gamble if you do not want to gamble. You can talk to one of our Advisors on our Free Telephone Helpline on 0808 8020 133 or on our Netline from the link on our Website.

We also give free counselling from many areas in the country, you will be able to look at the underlying reasons why you gamble if you would like to talk with a counsellor.

Well done for deciding to change your thinking about gambling, we are here everyday from 8am to 12pm if you would like to call and talk to one of us.

You do not have to be alone in this.

Regards

You can continue your post from this section,'Overcoming Gambling' ones you have introduced yourself. We also have a Recovery Diary Section that others have found helpful, you can have a read about how others have found help with opening their own recovery diary and see if you would like to start your own.

I've had many many mornings like that, for me a lot of it was fear as well.

Then the constant "how am I going to make that money back" sometimes lasting days. Then the little voice in the back of your head saying "you could win it back". We all know... you can't.

You can stop the grey feeling by not gambling again... It's hard for sure, but there is no super quick way you can get money back you've lost... that was what was hardest for me, admitting that it's gone. I've not gambled for 2 months after losing around £7k. Its been hard, but I am finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

It really does get better if you cut all gambling out of your life. I never ever thought I would be able to stop, if I can... anyone can.
