Who are the winners and losers when it comes to gambling?

Its obvious from reading that bookies are the winners and punters are the losers. But who else is a winner or a loser? families etc.

Think laterally, who benefits from your win, who feels your loss?

Hi WilliamR, another interesting post, thank you for sharing it here.

There are no winners; you could argue that the Bookmakers and gambling industry are, but there profit margin relies on the fact that 70% of their takings comes from problem gamblers - I couldn't be part of that without questioning the moral aspect, and the people who are choose to bypass it in their own mind, or look at it as a matter or choice; either way, there is a case that they are losers themselves; that is especially relevant to the people in boardrooms at a very senior level who are constantly developing new means of dragging you in further and making games/types of gambling more addictive.

With regards to punters, everyone loses. The problem is that this affliction is based around money, and money affects everyone - no-one benefits from a "win"; a win is the worst case scenario for everyone because you crave more of the euphoria that got you there, and then suddenly, smaller stakes won't give that to you, so you increase them, which leads to losing, and then losing money you can't afford.

I gambled for twenty years before stopping five year ago. Everyone felt it, my family, my friends, my boss, my work colleagues, my landlord - debts spiralled, which meant that collection companies and financial institutions felt the wrath of my misfortune. It all trickles down.

A well-quoted saying is that "money is the root of all evil" - it is, no question. With gambling, everyone loses at all levels.

So true punters are the loosers and bookmakers are the winners.

Spend a month earning your pay anf then gone in few hours. All for what, a bit of treal.
