Bubbled another big poker tournament that I couldn't afford to play tonight. 13/100 with 12 being paid and $5000 going to the winner.
I can't decide if the emotion is unbearable, or living without it is unbearable.
"Once I get that big win and have my finances under control I will stop."
Of course you will PA, of course you will.
Hi Pa
You know even after a big win you won't stop. None of us ever do. The only way to win is to stop.
You have found the strength to post here so I am sure you can find the strength to stop gambling.
You will find support and encouragement here and you are not alone.
I wish you well in your recovery.
Elfie
Winning is poison.
Winning promotes (temporarily) the illusion that you can profit by gambling.
At least when you lose you don't fall into the mistake of thinking gambling is anything other than losing.
Surviving to the bubble is poison because you can smell the win, which is also poison.
The adrenaline and dopamine rush from surviving to the bubble is poison. The thrill of the competition is poison. They distort your senses, making it hard to recognize that Everything Else In Life is available as an alternative, if only you don’t enter the tournament in the first place.
Poison.
Clean for 1 year+, and shuddering at how vividly I remember the taste of that poison, I am here to testify: you can live just fine without poison. Life without poison is good. Much better than life with poison.
You already know there is no win out there, because you said it yourself. Ironically, perhaps. Self-deprecatingly, perhaps. But you spoke the truth yourself. You nailed it.
that's not quite true
the gambling industry has made an art of losing
they make millions on people nearly winning. Example scratchcards its incredible how many of the losing tickets often have two of the three big stickers needed. Do I think that's an accident. No i don't. I see them spending millions on adverts, promotions and the like. An accident or is it because they know how to keep a gambling addict like me on the hook?
yes for many its a choice. they can place their small stake and win or lose be happy but in my experience the gambling industry want the gambling addict the person who is ill, putting in money they can't afford.
Based on everything i observe they are very very good at it. they deserve a gambling oscar. bravo.
Affected by gambling?
