Hi,

So i'm aware not many people will read/respond to this but I just want to keep a daily diary/update of my progress from tomorrow, 21/12/2014 as it will keep me occupied and away from those ***holes of bookies who have ruined the last 2 years of my life.

i'm 20 years old and have attempted to stop before and last around 50 days but fell off the wagon hard and I just can't do it to myself anymore. I spend the weekdays at work then weekends just sat in my room or the sofa watching football because have no money to socialise and because of that lost a lot of friends.

so for that reason i have set this up so that 2015 is my year and the year i beat this disease! i've got goals of buying myself a car and a 6k-8k Rolex in the new year so if i can go the year without a single bet and savings i'll be one happy man.

If people wish to leave comments of encourgement that would be appreciated and just little check ups to make sure im still on track would be great as its a lonely world being a 'addicted gambler' as some people like to call me.

so yeah, thats me and I hope I can do it and I wish everyone else the same luck!

Thanks,

D

Hi D and welcome

First off, you'll be surprised how many people read your diary. You'll also be surprised at the support/inspiration you get from reading other people's.

It's a tough journey, but it's one we have to start at some point. If we don't start it, life can't get better.

It's good to have goals, but particularly in the early days try to concentrate on getting through one day at a time.

Good luck and I wish you well on your road to recovery
Jess

Good luck mate, seems there are a lot of people in the same situation.. Reading through a lot of diaries and can see that without the blocks in place people can fall easily back in to it. So setup up any that you need to that in any moments of weakness are accounted for.

Im early days like yourself and think now is a good time to set up those goals and say 2015 is going to be a good year 🙂

Hi Jess & GambleNoNore,

Thanks for your messages, nice to see people responding and supporting each other.

Day 1 has been success, no bet and no thoughts of betting, but still very angry with myself for what I've done to my self over last few years and only being 20!

But we shall all get through it together.

Day 2 = No betting..

Mainly due to no money but doing well to occupy my mind elsewhere!

Doesn't help with cousin and father betting a lot but will avoid it

Hi mate day 3 your doing well, I have a brother that's a big gambler so it does make it difficult for me as we have always gambled together from a young age but enough a enough for me I can't let my life slip way any thurther than it has, your only 20 and I think it's brilliant that your grabbing hold of this now before you get deeper , I'm 32 I wish I had your way of thinking when I was 20 I would prob b about a 100k richer lol well done pal keep up the good work

Thanks Kirbs, yeah the influence from people around me is what got me into it and was hard to stop, worst part for me was I would very regularly make thousands from only 100 but I could never stop and withdraw.. Always wanted that next 100 and would end at 0.

But yeah glad I'm stopping now and nice to hear you are too.. How long you stopped for?

Only been 5 days for me mate but that is a good result I hxve tried stopping before bk in Xmas 2011 when I had some huge losses again on top of Xmas I think I lasted 11 days went for a beer wiv my bro next thing I knew I was nuts deep in a fruit machine haven't stopped since, I have passion for poker and I have one lots playing tourney and cash games online but it seems to get Harry muncked on other forms that is what I'm struggling to stop the most I think it's hard to come to terms with

Day 4, Day 5 = No betting..

Had Christmas to occupy me yesterday and had a cracking day, did get little annoyed as with my losses over few last months I could've spoiled my parents and siblings but next year I can do that!

Also Day 6 today and busy again so won't be any betting!

Don't worry too much about tips coming in, even if you'd have won you'd probably have ended up gambling it back and more!

Everyone thinks they are top gamblers, if they were that good they'd be doing it as a job.

Throughout the year you'll hear plenty of tips that don't come in. Yesterday was a great day for favourites at the football and I saw tons of winning slips from mates on facebook. I'm glad they won, better than the bookies having it but also glad I didn't because it's not about the winning for me...I keep gambling until it's gone, more about the losing!

Hi D,

Well done on a whole week without gambling.

Some great advice from JM24 (Jess), regarding just taking 'one day at a time'. That is a great way to deal with this recovery journey. Slowly the days build up, and your strength will grow.

If you have that inner belief that you want to make a better life for yourself and be able to buy yourself nice things in the future - Now is thetime to stop my friend. You are 20. Please do not waste anymore time on gambling, it really is a mugs game.

Keep strong and keep posting and reading these diaries each day.

It will help.

All the best

Ade
