In short, between November 2010-20, I have lost 40k gambling! Â The amount crept up fairly slowly for 8 years but I was able to rationalise it as affordable entertainment. Â Losses in the last 2 years have escalated out of my control, mainly due to playing slots, which I never did before. Â
So, now I have to look forward to a gambling free next decade.
Â
@jeanydog, how do you plan to have a gamble free next decade? What's the plan?
Chris.
Well Chris, as a start I am trying to install Gamban on my devices. Â Works ok on laptop but still downloaded properly on iPhone/ iPad. Â
Registering for this forum is also a first step. Â I want to learn from others.
Â
I have now installed Gamban on all my devices. Â Bingo halls and arcades closed due to coronavirus. Â A huge relief that the rest of November will be gambling free. Â That now gives me a few weeks to consider how to further restrict. Â
Â
Good start. You can self exclude from the bingo halls and arcades, there are some links in the self help section above in the menus.
You could also register to Gamstop to stop any online activity too. See if that helps.

Just reflecting on what a dangerous year 2020 has been in terms of my gambling!  Have been gambling for 10 years and have lost as much this year as in previous 9 added together.  Mainly it is due to escalation of playing slots.  I remember when I was sports betting, could lose £50 and feel bad.  On slots, £500’s were slipping through my fingers as quickly.  Money loses its value when trapped in the gambling cycle.  It makes me sick to think of the life changing amount of money I have thrown away especially this year.  Hard earned savings gone, gone, gone! Â
I used to be someone who would have thought ‘I can’t understand why people would waste money on slots.....you can’t win’.  My first taste of video slots was only June 19 when I tried an offer on Jackpot Joy and played a game with spinning wild monkeys.  It was like pure elixir to a gambler.  Slots are so addictive! Â
Gamban on for 3 days now.  I am enjoying the feeling of knowing that I can’t just try a ‘quick £100’ while dinner cooking etc... I definitely would have gambled without Gamban.  I definitely would have gone to bingo hall slots if they were open.  Only disappointment is that I had £75 in one casino account but can not access site to upload docs and withdraw because of Gamban.  I emailed the support desk but they have said no can do any other way than through account. Hi, well done making these steps and installing blockers. You could also ask your bank to put a block on gambling transactions as an extra safeguard.
Good luck
@jeanydog If you register with Gamstop, that will automatically close and exclude you from all your accounts and if there is money in them it will process the refund to you.
That is safer for you than going around the Gamban as you don't need to go onto the site.
Chris.
